Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency Program

Published

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a strong letter of intent for Vanderbilt's Nurse residency program? I know they accept a lot of applicants for each cohort but I'm not sure how many people actually apply and how competetive it actually is. If there is anyone on here that is currently in the program, was previously or knows anyone who has gone through the program, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi there! In order to get into the NR program you have to be a new graduate or a RN with less than 6 months experience. Sounds like you'd be overqualified. Good luck on your position!

Question - applied a week ago for regular position that has been posted since October. Can you get into their NR program from the "inside"? Or what are the odds of even getting a call on the staff job? I have 8 yrs experience/the last 3 yrs with high risk at a comparable level hospital out of the area and would love to relocate.

thanks a bunch

I am a little confused by your post. Are you already an RN looking for a staff nurse position? The nurse residency is only for Graduate Nurses or RNs with less than six months of experience at the time of application. If you are already an RN with 8 years of experience then you wouldn't need to get into the NRP. So i guess i am not exactly sure what you are asking. Anyway i would think if you have all that experience and the position has been posted for that long that they would be interested. try looking on the website to find what recrutier is responsible for the departement you are interested in and send them an e-mail to see if the positon is still available.

:o After I sent the post I realized my mistake - duh. Yes - I think I confused myself when I was seeing "residency" (after a loooong night) I was thinking "graduate program". I need to finish out the BS (only have RN/associate) and get into a MS that Vanderbilt is noted for.

Thanks so much for not being too harsh.

ps - and best of luck to all of you!!!!!

Has anyone else received any emails yet from Vanderbilt? I just got one today saying they received my packet and will send out emails mid-February for the next step. Oh, and for whoever asked earlier where everyone was from, I'm from northwest Ohio.

I got the same email! Guess that means we have to wait a few more weeks to know if we'll get interviews....

Can you imagine people that applied all the way back in November!?!? Waiting this long is hard enough, I can't imagine waiting 3-4 months!

Good luck! I'll keep you posted.

Same email here as well. Good luck to all of you!

what they will do is go over your application materials and send you an e-mail either saying that you are chosen for an interview or that they don't want to persue you as a candidate. if you get the interview then you made the first step

Thank you Angel for updating us on the process they go through. It's good to know they'll send out an email either way.

no problem. believe me i know how it feels going through the process and I wish everyone the best of luck. This is my second week in the residency and I love it so far. Vandy is a really great place to work.

Does anyone know of any Residency Programs in the TN, North MS area for new LPN's?? Do they have any for people who go through a LPN-ADN or LPN-BSN Program and then are new graduates with a RN License??

you would still be lumped in with the new rn grads whether you have LPN experience or not. I was also an LPN prior to getting my RN and they dont really give you any special treatment for that. As far as LPN residencies, i haven't seen any. The scope of practice is limited for LPNs and the demand isn't great enough in a hospital setting for them to spend money on a LPN residency. I would definately advise you to go for the LPN-BSN route if you want to be marketable in tennessee. They favor BSNs in this area.

thank you so much for the info. Thats another thing I was trying to decide on and knowing that they really want people with BSN's helps me with my decision.
