Vanderbilt University PMHNP Fall 2024

Updated:   Published

Hi! I wanted to network, discuss, and share with others regarding MSN (RN) applicants for Vanderbilt University MSN Fall 2024 program.  I applied for PMHNP by priority deadline and am awaiting admission decisions! I was wonder what everyone's GPA is looking like or if anyone has experience with the application process?

I thoroughly enjoyed my program. Depends on the kind of person you are toward your education, I think. Obviously I think applying and getting into Vanderbilt shows you are highly motivated anyway, but I didn't think of myself as very academic nor did I have any support in my education from many prior to attending. BUT, once I got to Vandy the support was amazing. From clinical selection (it can be hard), to faculty understanding that "life happens," to even the hug I received on stage and Dr Hopkins (director of AGPC) sharing "I am so proud of you" after losing both my Dad and my MIL during the program- I made sure to make every moment count. My clinical faculty grading my assignments, presentations and such was voted as a Top NP in the nation (Dr. Melissa Smith); even so, every faculty member there is devoted to your education and well-being. I sure felt it. I just felt honored to be there and to be part of the program.

Some weeks were horrendous with studying (it's grad school LOL), but as long as you manage your time well and ask questions I think you will succeed!

I graduated 8/6, took boards 9/14 and passed, had two job offers 9/15 (they were NOT kidding about applying before you graduate), and I start 1/2/24 - also Vandy did not kid around that credentialing and such takes a long time. I live in Oregon. So, if you are one who is working.... keep your job even after accepting an NP gig and do not leave it until you have an official start date (if this applies to you). For me, I knew my start date would be 1/2/24 and so I took advantage of leaving my bedside RN gig a week ago so I can spend the holidays with family before launching into the new career.

Sorry, that ended up being longer than I anticipated. Hope what I share helps ?

That is wonderful to hear, I would love to talk with you more. ? Hopefully I get some good news tomorrow from Vandy.

I emailed the admissions counselor and I have attached her response.
Since this thread is for PMHNP Direct Entry (specifically for those who already has a BSN), I would assume mid December would be the PreSpecialty program decision release, not for direct entry. Guys we can relax till maybe January or mid Feb.

I did direct entry and I have a BSN, It might have just been a little different for me because I applied MTA. Good luck with the application process, I hope we all get to be classmates ?

I asked her and she said only a few people were contacted regarding their specific circumstances but the majority of the applications were not reviewed yet. I'm so happy for you tho!!

Did you apply to PreSpecialty instead of Direct Entry?

No. This is for direct entry, I will have my RN license in Spring 2024.

Oh wow!! Did you get in? This is very interesting. It seems the admissions haven't even reviewed my application yet. I'm thinking it depends on the specialty!

Hey guys,

I applied direct entry PMHNP  and got my admission letter today. They may be reviewing MTA first. I switched to OMTA after applying. Therefore they may have already reviewed my application before I switched. Hope that helps. Hope everyone hears something soon because it's definitely excruciating!
