Hi! I wanted to create a thread for those applying to Vanderbilt University MSN via PreSpecialty Entry! I heard we will hear back before the holiday's if you apply in time for priority review. What speciality did you apply to?
Cnmfnpca said:I believe Vanderbilt has the only FNP/CNM program which is super unique! I will be attending OHSUs PA program in a few months. Vanderbilt was the only NP Program I applied to because the FNP/CNM gives you the flexibility that PAs have (with the added benefit of birth work) but I ended up going with OHSU!
I applied to OHSU for midwifery! I wish you good luck in Portland & with becoming a PA!

Congratulations to everybody that got in! I got in for PMHNP!
I also applied to OHSU for their direct-entry DNP program.
I am a little nervous with how fast paced the program is and if I'll be able to remember everything after it's over. Was wondering if anybody else is also concerned and what other programs people are considering.

I'm a little concerned about the pacing too that's why I'll be working very little during the program. I did consider Georgetown's program for part time but it's insanely expensive.
I did hear from a lot of Vandy MSN alums that the program really prepared them well for the boards and their practice so I think we will be okay!! Good luck to everyone ?

For my stats/background, I hold a 3.97 GPA from my BS in Biochemistry, with minors in Mathematics and Psychology. I had about ~1000 hours as a nurse assistant and about ~400 hours as a volunteer. I have a couple of honor societies and the president of a club at my college. I can't think of much else that would've contributed to my application besides my recommendation letters (2 from professors 1 from an NP) and my essays. I hope this helped & good luck with everything!
Thank you for sharing, can I ask how you got into the volunteer work? I'd like to do more things like that to gain more experience and strengthen my resume/application but I don't have any kind of medical background in my current career so I'm struggling to figure out how to add more things with that. I think I'm going to just try and find a BSN or ABSN program and reapply next cycle too ?? it would be wonderful to meet y'all sometime!

I volunteered at American Red Cross & Massachusetts General Hospital (I live in Mass). For the Red Cross - you can apply on their website and they run a very small, informal interview and then you are all set. I just worked checking people in at blood drive centers (which I believe are located all over the country). For MGH, they had an application on their website, which was also accompanied by a small interview. A lot of hospitals have opportunities if you Google their volunteer departments. If nothing comes up when you search, you can also email them and ask if they know of any opportunities! Other small projects were in soup kitchens with medically tailored meals and collecting supplies for students in need. These were organized through a club, reaching out to the organization's primary email address. I would try reaching out to a few places, I'm sure they would be more than happy for you to help. Let me know if you have any more questions, I'm happy to help!!

Hi, I'm so sorry you didn't get the news you were looking for. I'm sure there are wonderful things in store for you. I had a 3.93 undergrad GPA, no grad school but a few years of doula and reproductive justice related community work experience. My letters of rec were from a college professor and two colleagues who work in birth and abortion care.
We need more midwives so I'd love to connect & talk more. Feel free to drop your email and I'd be more than happy to share more!
