Vanderbilt 2020 Pre Specialty

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

I am making a post for all programs I am applying for that I have not seen thus far. I have been going into rabbit holes of previous year's posts for schools I am applying for. Vanderbilt has been my top choice since I decided to go into direct entry nursing the end of my sophomore year of college, so it seems only fitting to make a post for it. I am applying for the PMNHP specialty and look forward to reading posts and getting to know everyone!

I received a voice mail (never even received the call ?) at 9am, then an email at 10am. I called back around 12, she verified that I was willing to complete the second year at a distance, and then told me I should be receiving an acceptance letter later in the day. I received the letter around 5pm!

Thank you for the information. How long do they give you to make the decisions to accept or not?

I put I would do my specialty year outside of middle Tennessee but does anyone know if it’s possible to change that? Or know how common it is to actually be in Nashville itself for the specialty year and not somewhere else in Tennessee if you do your specialty year inside MTA?

I have 10 days to accept or decline the admission. I got my acceptance letter Tuesday the 7th, & I have to respond by the 17th... actually, while speaking to a director (I think that’s who she was) over the phone, she said I had two weeks, the official letter said otherwise.

Just wanted to offer some more hope!

I got a call (missed it) and then a voicemail offering me admission to the PreSpecialty program for Nurse-Midwifery on April 1st! I thought it might be an April Fool's Day joke LOL. I really had already given up hope for this year. But here I am, excitedly (and hurriedly) trying to meet scholarship deadlines for attendance in the fall.

Much love! Can't wait to meet you all.

Hi everyone! Are any accepted students applying for the VPIL program or have any thoughts on it?

Hi friends! Hope everyone is doing well. Has anyone heard from the FNP waitlist? ?

Thanks for the insight. I hope that everything is okay for you, and that this was a positive thing!

Nurse Corps scholarship question, if anyone can help! Are PreSpecialty students able to apply the first year? Some people have called the program hotline and they say that we have to wait until we are RNs, but there are current PreSpecialty students who are also Nurse Corps scholars. Any insight?

Yes. We can apply and be granted the scholarship. I am currently here at as a PreSpecialty student and I have the NurseCorps. I applied before matriculating into Vandy--around this time last year.

Hi, did you apply to the Nurse Corps Scholarship or the NHSC program? I am just a little confused, and have been hearing conflicting information from all prespecialty students.

I am sorry it is so confusing to so many. I applied to both scholarships as we are eligible for both since our program educates us to become Providers. We are eligible to apply for both from the beginning. You DO NOT have to wait until finishing your prespecialty year to be eligible for either scholarship. You are eligible for both scholarships from day one of your PreSpcialty year (which means you have to apply now so you will have it in the fall if you win. There is the following caveat:

We are all eligible for Nurse Corps.

Some specialties are not eligible for the NHSC. I do not know which specialties are ineligible for the NHSC as my specialty is PMHNP and it is eligible.

If you are in a specialty that is eligible for the NHSC, I hope you apply for both and good luck in getting one. Spread the word to others!
