Vanderbilt Pre-specialty Fall 2011

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I just wanted to get a thread started for those who plan on applying to Vanderbilt's prespecialty (for non-nurses) MSN program. I only recently discovered this program about 2 months ago and am absolutely enamored with it! I plan to apply to 8 schools for this cycle, but Vanderbilt is at the very top of my list. I am looking into FNP, which has the distance option. I am not sure whether or not I would prefer to stay at Vanderbilt for the whole program, but I do like that there is the option.

Aside from finishing up micro this summer and taking the GRE in a month, I am fully ready to apply. Just need the application for 2011 to open up!:lol2:

Anyone else?

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted!!! Has anyone in California or who applied for the WHNP program get a letter yet??

pdubya24- I applied to WHNP as well and I am anxiously waiting for a decision in Florida!! Anyone else WHNP? Please let me know ASAP :)

Best of luck to all and Congrats for those already in!!

Ok, I am really, really down about getting wait-listed on the NMW specialty. I'm not in a position to relocate for midwifery training, so Vanderbilt was the only place master's program I applied to. I am in the process of doing some back up applications to get a diploma RN or an accelerated BSN locally (middle TN area), but....I am just so broken hearted. Anyone out there looking at this thread have experience in this ? I felt like I had great recommendations and 3.9 undergrad. ANY advice and encouragement is welcome, yall. :(

I think the two people that have been accepted to the NMW specialty have a ton of experience (I have a bit, but still...intimidating), so if that is something that might be lacking in your application, that is definitely something that is easily remedied.

And remember, being waitlisted is not a rejection. People apply to lots of different programs, and not all the people they choose will attend. Over the next few weeks just keep checking back with the administration. I know tons of people that have been waitlisted that eventually get into the program. You have a stellar GPA, so I'm sure you're at the top of the list!

Hi Guys!

I'm new to the site but I received an acceptance letter to the WHNP/ANP program on Saturday! :yeah: I am in Nashville so that may be the reason why I received it so quickly. Good Luck and I hope to see you in the Fall :)

Chellentn,

I'm gonna give it to you straight: CHIN UP ABOUT BEING WAIT LISTED! I was waitlisted for ACNP last year, and I'm a current student now. Now is not the time to give up hope, I promise you still have a good chance of getting in. I would drop your admissions counselor a quick email to reiterate your great interest in the program and offer to give any more info on you that they would like, then leave it at that. They are wanting to weed out the ones who don't want Vandy as their first choice, so (without making a pest of yourself) just check in with them every now and then- say, once a month or so. Big hug for you, and don't get too down on yourself. The game's not over yet-- you're just in overtime now! :D

I just got a NMW letter of acceptance, and I'm excited... but I'm also pretty sure I won't be attending Vanderbilt. Wait list isn't rejection, remember that. You still have a really good chance of attending this amazing school!

Anyone else with accept letters aggravated that you have to accept/decline WAY before financial aid letters are released? That is not fair!

Does anybody have any idea about the size of the nurse-midwifery cohort? I somehow can't find that information anywhere. Thank you and good luck!

I asked during my interview, and the woman I interviewed with said they had expanded the size of their program to about 30 per cohort.

I keep running out to check my mail every 15 minutes...gahhhh!!!!!

Thanks Mef. That seems huge compared to the 5-6 at Seattle University, 7-9 at OHSU, and 8 at UCSF!

hi! congrats to those who received acceptance letters!!! VERY exciting!!!

anyone heard from the FNP program? Or in California??
