Hey everyone! I couldn't find this thread anywhere so figured that I would start one for all of us who applied to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty Entry program (for non-RNs) this fall. I applied for the PMHNP specialty. What about you?! :)
The open house today was very well run! It was hard being there while still not knowing about the status of my application. One of the very nice faculty members told me that direct entry should start hearing this coming week. They have some big meeting on Wed, so it may be after that. This particular faculty member is in charge of pediatrics and made it sound like she was just about to start notifying applicants. Here's to hoping!!
I didn't necessarily learn anything new while there. Most people there were applying for next year so the sessions on the application and such didn't pertain to me as I've already applied. It was just nice to get a feel for what to expect, discuss the block scheduling, talk to a panel of current students and meet some faculty. Vanderbilt has really set the bar high, that's for sure! I'm ready for this week to just bring news- any news would be better than continuing to wait!
I agree with tracytracy - the info wasn't all new (although there was some of it - it was great to learn that all of the faculty in the program also practice, and that in the pre-specialty year clinicals are in a 6:1 student:teacher ratio) but having never been to Nashville it was super helpful to be able to go on a tour of the campus and facilities. Talking to students both at the panel and on our tour was also awesome as everyone I talked to loved the program and Nashville. The Vanderbilt Medical Center is super up-to-date, and it seems that during the pre-specialty year we begin our clinical experiences there. Overall I was really impressed with the program's organization and rigor, and how much it supports its students development. I was also happy with how friendly Nashville is as a city and how much fun it is :)

Ames78 & lddt19 - same here except I called and they said to check back next week. I wonder if FNP pre-specialty are the last to find out.
