Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Winter 2021

Published

Hi guys!

I have not seen a thread for the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency program for Winter 2021 and thought I'd make one! I am currently in the process of applying. I am on my first part of my application. I would love to hear whose applying, what unit they are applying to and your experience so far!

I got an email saying their pediatric track choices have all been filled for the interview process, so they offered me to rank adult units.

Did anyone get any offers for peds/NICU?

Hi! I got the same email this morning. I’m super bummed. I have 3 years of pedi tech experience and am super interested in pediatrics. I’m from MA so I’m not sure if I will move for an adult position.

have they started offering peds interview spots??

Yes. I was offered an interview within Peds but not the unit I had originally applied for

Hello all!

I submitted my application for Adult Cardiac Stepdown yesterday. I believed I had missed the deadline for all applications, but they left some open due to the need for more applicants! I am thrilled! I am in a 12 month ABSN program at University of Miami and I wanted to wait until my grades for my Summer transcript were in.

I am curious as to where everyone is at in terms of experience and GPA stats, certifications, etc. Is anyone still in their final semester of school?

Hi icuhopefulRN! I originally wanted NICU, but they gave me the option to rank adult tracks as peds positions were filled—I was between Oncology and Cardiac Stepdown as my top two choices so we will see how this goes!

For what it’s worth my GPA is a 3.69, in the nursing honor society, hold a position as a class officer for NSNA, and had previous experience as a medical assistant at an OBGYN’s office.

My husband works for Vanderbilt so we already have a place up there. I got to know Nashville a little bit this past Summer when I was there for Summer break so let me know if y’all have any questions about the area. I’m in Georgia until I graduate (I graduate this December)!

@JHNurse it sounds like you have great credentials: GPA, experience, leadership! Thank you for sharing. I am glad to hear that someone who is still in school is being considered for the Stepdown Track! I visited Nashville for NYE and we loved it. Being from San Diego, the comparative pay is 50% less. However, an experience at Vanderbilt is more valuable than a higher paying job (in my opinion). I wish you the best of luck and keep me updated!

Ah! That’s so exciting, congratulations on hearing back. I haven’t heard from NICU. Here’s to hopefully hearing back soon!

When did you apply for NICU, were you a late applier? Your credentials sound amazing

Hi there, just to give an idea for where I am at, I will be interviewing for PICU and am also in my last semester of school. I work as a RN Extern in a neuro ICU as well as a research assistant for my university and a HIV test counselor. my GPA is 3.83. I suspect we are all around the same with regard to grades and experience, and I am sure you will do wonderful!

Hi! I just finished my ABSN program. I applied for pediatrics but was offered an interview for the adult hospital. I have been a patient care tech for 3 years now. I started on an adult onc floor and then moved to pediatrics where I have been working for the past two years! My GPA is a 3.6 but I did not include that in my app...maybe I should have. I have friends who work at Vandy and they LOVE it! I think any experience is good experience as a new grad! ?

I submitted my application on time—August 5th was the date I turned it all in I believe! I really hoped it would happen for me but I’ll learn to be flexible with my options! Thank you!!

Are any of you applying to the surrounding hospitals in the Nashville area?

That is amazing! It sound like applicants are extremely competitive and rightfully so. I eventually want to get into Peds as well! Best of luck with your interview ?

It sounds like you have good experience as well! If you were in an ABSN program with above a 3.5, I would definitely add it to your resume! It shows that you are able to handle a large caseload while maintaining a great GPA. Keep me updated with your adult interview and best of luck!
