The application for the Vanderbilt nurse residency for February 2015 will open in August. Who all is applying? Does anyone have advice for those of us who will be applying?

I told Vandy no. It was a tough decision, but the pay is just too low. They aren't even paying $21 an hour. Ouch. I'll be making $25.50-29.50 an hour where I'm at. I can't walk away from that.
Yes, the pay is a bit lower than some other hospitals. I just have to believe it's because we are also receiving all the extra benefit of a residency program which adds to our compensation. Either way I'm glad your happy with your decision.
I'm ready for some exciting new experiences in Nashville!

I'm in a year-long residency, and that's the pay. I think Vandy's low-balling because of the name Vandy, not because of a residency program. Anyhow, enjoy Nashville! I'm sure it'll be fun.

I mean our pay is on par with Birmingham, Chattanooga, and I think pretty even still within Nashville. Some of these other hospitals only have like $1 shift diffs too. ATL is around $22 I think and in Montgomery, AL they actually pay $18 so that's awful. It's all just about cost of living, which looking at apt prices I do feel like we should get a little more, but oh well.

FYI - I emailed to ask about differential pay and this was the response. In addition to the rate liste:The weekend differential is $6.00 per hour. From 7p-11p is $3.00 per hour; and 11p-7a is $3.50 per hour.

I have decided to say no to Vanderbilt as i was offered a PICU position at my dream hospital in California. It was a tough and bittersweet decision as I know Vanderbilt is incredible as are all of you. It's been so encouraging to see you all encouraging one another and I know you'll be a great cohort of new grads!!! God bless all of you!!

Hi BeksRN14,
I am a BSN student currently in TN and am going to be applying to Vandy most likely when I complete my education. My husband and I just moved here this year from CA. I am probably going to apply to some RN residencies in CA as well. Do you have any tips as far standing out and what the job market is like there?
Thank you for taking the time to respond. That is good advice! It helps to take the pressure off a little and remind me to just learn all I can for now. Congrats and enjoy your new job in the NICU.
