Vanderbilt Nurse Residency 2015

Published

The application for the Vanderbilt nurse residency for February 2015 will open in August. Who all is applying? Does anyone have advice for those of us who will be applying?

I think I am going to!! Swedish didn't give the time of day, even after the recruiter had sent me an email telling me to apply because the jobs were just posted! I didn't like that they didn't even OPEN the application!!...but yes, all forgotten :)

Are you going to stay with the place you accepted, or take Vandy?

I haven't heard anything yet. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Congrats though to everyone who has gotten acceptances so far!

I got the same email before the application was open. They kept my email address from an email I sent in July, and that made me think they were really interested in me. Then I don't even get an interview! I though that was a little mean.

I'm gonna sleep on my Vandy decision tonight.

They gave us until the 25th to respond. Maybe you're waitlisted until they know who's in and who's out. Good luck.

Hi Cellogirl-

Congrats! I am very interested in working in the NICU at Vandy after graduation. What do you think set you apart to get accepted? I still have a few more semesters in my BSN program, so I am trying to get a jump on doing things to build my resume that would make me a good candidate for that track. Any insight you have would be so appreciated!

Specializes in NICU.

I think my clinical nurse extern position helped (tech position). I had a lot of good clinical examples to use during the interview. I also shadowed NICU nurses and had a clinical rotation in the peds ED, in which we saw newborns that went home then got sick. I am not sure what exactly set me apart to be honest. I think my cover letter was sincere and my clinical experiences helped me answer the interview questions easily. Good luck! :)

klmcquire91 got a NICU position too so you can ask her what she thinks as well

Has anyone that applied for the adult emergency tract gotten an email? I have not yet

I interviewed for the Peds Ed and I have yet to hear anything. It could mean we've been waitlisted. I know in the past they have sent out waitlist emails, but perhaps they aren't doing that this year? I'm just waiting...

I interviewed for the Peds Ed as well, and I haven't heard anything either!

Maybe that track hasn't sent anything out then?:nailbiting:

I told Vandy no. It was a tough decision, but the pay is just too low. They aren't even paying $21 an hour. Ouch. I'll be making $25.50-29.50 an hour where I'm at. I can't walk away from that. :D

Accepted to MICU! Ready to get started.
