Vanderbilt Nurse Residency 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

The application for the Vanderbilt nurse residency for February 2015 will open in August. Who all is applying? Does anyone have advice for those of us who will be applying?

Yikes. I hope it doesn't affect my chances that I told them I have an interest in ACNP down the line.

Hey guys, GL w/ your interviews. I didn't read any of the previous posts but I interviewed last year and was offered a position in CC. I declined solely b/c of the pay (Vanderbilt is an absolute beauty, and the staff and different level of employees I met while there were the most professional compared to all the other individuals I had met on previous interviews.) If you guys are offered a spot, really consider everything has to offer. As someone who is currently making $17 more hourly than what Vandy offered at a Trauma Center in my home state, I regret my decision every day.

My offer letter stated that base pay was $20.85 (obviously not including diffs). The interview was pretty standard. 3-5 standard interview questions followed by some behavioral questions. I was interviewed by two managers and was greeted by Ms. Fargo w/ preliminary info about the residency before the actual interview. I decided on a hotel near the airport and not the interview site. My hotel had free shuttle service to/from the airport and was about a 7 min drive. I took a taxi to the interview site (20-25 min drive and cost approx $50 roundtrip).

Thanks itrust! Why do you regret your decision? That seems like a great opportunity where you are.

Yeah, I told them I wanted to do a Masters program later on as well... And thank you again itrust!! That is something I'm really considering in regards to hospitals because I know I won't be happy at a place just because I might make more money, for me, I really need to be at a place I enjoy working.

Hi guys!

This is my first time posting. I have an interview for the Acute Surgical tract coming up in just over a week! I am super excited and super nervous. What are example behavior questions they asked? I hope we all get in and get to meet each other!!!! I don't know anyone in Nashville and have never been there, but I LOVE what I have read/googled and hear such amazing things about it! This girl is ready to leave NYC :)

I read in an article of nurse interview tips that they're usually looking for at least 1 year out of a new hire in general, so since we're doing a residency I think it'd be wise to suggest we'll stick around for a few years. It's true in my case, I'm looking for a job for at least the next 5 years, if not more.

Well, they'll tell you once a New Yorker, always a New Yorker! I left 11 years ago, and I'm still called that girl from NY. I've accepted my status as a damn Yankee. :bag: I love to visit, but I could never live that rat-race lifestyle again.

That's true. I stated I saw myself working for the foreseeable future, "whether that's ten years or five years,"I said. But def made it clear I wanted to pursue higher ed.

One of the good things about having clinical at a bad hospital is I know all the warning signs, and I learned no amount of pay is worth your mental health. My clinical site was top-down management, managers with a very punitive and negative approach, no one cared what the nurses thought, and all the nurses were young because once they got that coveted year of experience they ran away. I like what I've read about 's shared governance and their magnet status. Magnet status speaks volumes. My mother was admitted to a magnet hospital last winter, and I could FEEL the difference from my facility, it was night and day. The nurses were happy.

xpressel,

Good luck on your interview! I interview for the same track as you in 2 weeks from now! :) Let us know how it went! Hope to meet you one day:)

Thanks guys! Yeah I definitely want to stay wherever I work for a while - I wrote about that in my letter of intent. Nervous but excited! Hopefully we won't have to wait until December to find out!!

Hope to meet you too!! Are you from TN?
