Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Program Summer/Fall 2019

Published

Hi everyone!

I haven’t seen a thread for Vanderbilt applicants for the Summer/Fall 2019 cohort, so I thought I would get us started!

What track are you applying to and why? Have you submitted your application and letter of intent?

Hey, random question for you! I just graduated from nursing school in May 2019 and am looking into the nurse residency program for the October start! when did the application period open/close for the October cohort? most residency programs that I'm applying for are open now for the October start, but it seems like Vanderbilt does theirs way in advance, but I can't find exact dates online!

Thanks!!

Hey! Congrats on graduating, such a huge accomplishment! Unfortunately the application and hiring process for October is already complete.

On the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency website, it says the application for the Winter 2020 cycle will post on July 5.

Hey Everyone,

So I have an interview at Vanderbilt For Nurse Residency Program for October 2019!

I was wondering what kind of questions were asked?

That’s amazing! Congratulations! What kinds of questions did they ask/how many people did you interview with? My interview is next Wednesday and I am so nervous!

Thank you! They asked basic questions of how you wanted to be a nurse and such and moved to situational based, look at the powerpoint they sent you, they just asked what would you do if.. tell me a time you had to think quickly etc. If you look at the powerpoint and it will help a lot.

Hi everyone! For those who accepted a position for the October start date, have you all taken/passed the NCLEX? I graduated in August and received an offer this past Friday but have not received my ATT yet in order to test. I have left Tracey a message in regards to this, but just wanted to reach out and see if anyone else is in a similar situation and what feedback you have received!! Will they push the start date back? Could they rescind the offer? Anything is helpful!

I am in the same boat as you and Tracey said to just keep her in the loop, and I saw a email that said even if you were to fail NCLEX they will hold your spot for the next session. So I am pretty sure that they'll just hold your spot for next start date!

Hi there! I graduate in May and am planning to apply to the residency program. To those of you who were offered positions and are currently working at Vanderbilt, are you happy with your decision? I know it's an excellent hospital, but I also know that a lot of other hospitals pay more than Vanderbilt does. Also those who moved from further away to work there, were you offered any relocation assistance?

I know that Vanderbilt does not offer relocation assistance. I graduated in May and began working at Vanderbilt in July. During nursing school, I worked at several other hospitals, did clinicals at other hospitals, and did a nurse extern program at another hospital...and I’ve never been impressed or happy until I started at Vanderbilt. Yes, the pay is less. But the experience is WORTH IT. You will work with the best of the best, see the worst of the worst. I drive an hour every day to work, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
