Vanderbilt MSN 2019

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2019. Anyone else applying/re-applying too? Please comment!

Ok thanks. I thought there would be. I’m just getting ideas ready so I’m not rushing to come up with something.

Hi guys! I am applying for the 2019 pre-specialty CNM/FNP program and am anxiously waiting for the app to open. Did you notice that they don't require the GRE this year? (Graduate Record Exam (GRE) | MSN Admissions | Admissions | School of Nursing | Vanderbilt University) One less thing to worry about I guess

@ktpineapple

I JUST found out about this program today! Can you tell me your thoughts on and experiences in it?

I'm a current prespecialty student at Vanderbilt. I'm selling my prespecialty book bundle for $250, if interested please email me at [email protected]

So I’m starting the program this fall and my experience so far has been absolutely terrible. The person that’s supposed to help me set up clinicals from Vanderbilt just ghosted me and hasn’t replied to my emails in over a month. The person in charge of taking the hold off of our accounts just doesn’t answer her calls or emails either and so i can’t even register for classes. It has been an absolute nightmare. If i were you and had a choice, don’t go here. You’re going to put a ton of money towards a school who won’t even take two minutes of their day to return your calls or emails. If i knew that this is how it was going to be I would have gone elsewhere.

Are you an incoming pre-specialty student? I am, and have also had a mixed experience in terms of support. Although not without being made to feel that I'm high maintenance, I've been demanding and have gotten what I need. This is my third degree in higher ed and l'd venture to say that understaffed and overextended is probably how most programs operate. If they don't answer by email, call them! I have made a lot of phone calls and have gotten much sorted out that way. I'd also suggest trying Dr. Jessee. She has been especially attentive and prompt.

No i am a speciality student so I guess we have different people that we have to talk to but honestly it is very clear to me and many other students who I have talked to that they can careless about or your needs. Honestly it’s an embarrassment for a school like Vanderbilt to completely disregard the needs of their students. One of the faculty hasn’t emailed me back in a month and a half. Like that’s crazy and i don’t think I’m asking for too much either. The other hasn’t bothered returned any of my calls in over three weeks. When I’m spending the kind of money on tuition that I am going to be, i expect them to at least get back to me within 3-4 days.

I've not been in touch with other incoming students on this topic... I'd only heard great things about the faculty from acquaintances that I know in the pre-specialty program. I think that this should be brought to VUSN's attention. I guess I fell for feeling like maybe I was being too needy. What specialty are you?

I’m going to be completely honest. I’ve had pretty much the same experience. My emails go unanswered and my phone calls unreturned.

I feel the same way. They also don't inform you correctly of things like finally yesterday after nearly 2 months I got a hold of someone about waiving the insurance was a nightmare. It kept getting denied just to find out that it was because one of the persons in Vanderbilt hadn't submit my name saying that I was doing distance learning!!!!

Wonder how many others are in the same spot and will end up paying for an insurance they don't need.

Hmm this is completely the opposite of my experience. Every time I call they pick up and my emails are answered relatively quickly. I’ve talked to current students and they said some things are slow...like being notified of your clinical placements.

It could be different from pre specialty to specialty, who knows? Just here to share that I’m loving Vandy so far.

Maybe this is a problem with the speciality programs?

What specialty are you entering? I do believe it varies specialty to specialty. I have only had a great experience so far.
