Hello! I am super nervous about my chances of being accepted into this program. I go to a pretty rigorous undergrad liberal arts school, so my GPA doesn't seem like much (3.4), but very few students here get a GPA above 3.6. I think my essays are strong and my experiences (working in a psychiatric residential facility, alzheimer's home, holding vice-president of Psi Chi (psychology honorary society), and being the faculty chosen student rep for the psychology department...among other similar things) are the strongest points of my application. I also have recommendations from the Dean of my college, the head of the Psychology department and my supervisor for the residential facilty I worked at. But, again, I'm worried my GRE and GPA will kick me out of the running.

How are you all feeling about this application cycle? I am so nervous!

I am applying the the Psych program this cycle and am nervous as well! It seems like you have awesome extra curricular's though. Did you get accepted?

I have an interview for the PMHNP program tomorrow at 1 pm. Has anyone else gotten an email? I got mine on the 4th!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of questions did they ask at the interview?

Accepted for direct entry PMHNP.

It only mentioned the basic scholarship that everyone gets, but I applied for the Bass Military Scholars program also...Did anyone else apply for that? If so, did they mention it in your acceptance letter...? That was kind of going to be hard to turn down if I got it, but if I didn't get it, I will probably decline in favor of UPENN...or possibly Yale if I get in there.

Congrats! If you don't mind me asking what gpa did you get in with?

Im in for PMHNP!

Congrats! I am interested in the PMHNP program as well. If you don't mind me asking, what gpa and experience did you get in with?

Congratulations to all incoming and potential students!

So I’m starting the program this fall and my experience so far has been absolutely terrible. The person that’s supposed to help me set up clinicals from Vanderbilt just ghosted me and hasn’t replied to my emails in over a month. The person in charge of taking the hold off of our accounts just doesn’t answer her calls or emails either and so i can’t even register for classes. It has been an absolute nightmare. If i were you and had a choice, don’t go here. You’re going to put a ton of money towards a school who won’t even take two minutes of their day to return your calls or emails. If i knew that this is how it was going to be I would have gone elsewhere.

Are you an incoming pre-specialty student? I am, and have also had a mixed experience in terms of support. Although not without being made to feel that I'm high maintenance, I've been demanding and have gotten what I need. This is my third degree in higher ed and l'd venture to say that understaffed and overextended is probably how most programs operate. If they don't answer by email, call them! I have made a lot of phone calls and have gotten much sorted out that way. I'd also suggest trying Dr. Jessee. She has been especially attentive and prompt.

No i am a speciality student so I guess we have different people that we have to talk to but honestly it is very clear to me and many other students who I have talked to that they can careless about or your needs. Honestly it’s an embarrassment for a school like Vanderbilt to completely disregard the needs of their students. One of the faculty hasn’t emailed me back in a month and a half. Like that’s crazy and i don’t think I’m asking for too much either. The other hasn’t bothered returned any of my calls in over three weeks. When I’m spending the kind of money on tuition that I am going to be, i expect them to at least get back to me within 3-4 days.

I've not been in touch with other incoming students on this topic... I'd only heard great things about the faculty from acquaintances that I know in the pre-specialty program. I think that this should be brought to VUSN's attention. I guess I fell for feeling like maybe I was being too needy. What specialty are you?

I’m going to be completely honest. I’ve had pretty much the same experience. My emails go unanswered and my phone calls unreturned.

I feel the same way. They also don't inform you correctly of things like finally yesterday after nearly 2 months I got a hold of someone about waiving the insurance was a nightmare. It kept getting denied just to find out that it was because one of the persons in Vanderbilt hadn't submit my name saying that I was doing distance learning!!!!

Wonder how many others are in the same spot and will end up paying for an insurance they don't need.

On 7/23/2019 at 1:16 PM, FutureCNM8 said:

Hmm this is completely the opposite of my experience. Every time I call they pick up and my emails are answered relatively quickly. I’ve talked to current students and they said some things are slow...like being notified of your clinical placements.

It could be different from pre specialty to specialty, who knows? Just here to share that I’m loving Vandy so far.

Maybe this is a problem with the speciality programs?

What specialty are you entering? I do believe it varies specialty to specialty. I have only had a great experience so far.

Hi Jessiekid, catcando, GeorgiaNurse2018, DianaRP, FutureCNM8, SunnyGirl321 and others. I'm the communications director for Vanderbilt School of Nursing. I'm so sorry you've had problems. Would you PM (or email [email protected]) with specific details so I can help or find the right person who can? Thanks.

Hey guys. I spoke to my program director today and it was very helpful. It is very easy to get frustrated because I can imagine we are all under a lot of stress but I would suggest looking up your program director if you are having any problems as she was more than happy to help me and spent a good amount of time on the phone with me helping me with what I needed.

I know the cycle is over, but I was wondering if any students could answer my question about preceptors? Are you all matched with preceptors and if not, are you least provided help in finding one/ making sure they are a quality preceptor(both in the person and in the site)? I apologize if this question has been asked already as well!

If you are a pre specialty MTN student they find your preceptors for you. If you are out of MTN you need to find your own but the placement office will do their best to help you. There are certain specialities that have to be MTN (psych is the only one I can think of right now).

not familiar with how direct entry works (student already an RN) but I assume its similar.
