Hi! I'm starting a thread for Fall 2019. Anyone else applying/re-applying too? Please comment!

I agree! I’m not going to lie I would prefer to know now either way so I can move on.

Hey HermioneNurse, I don't mean to dishearten you, but I turned in my application several days after the Nov 1st deadline and had my interview today (pre-specialty PMHNP)

I have an interview for the direct entry MSN program w/ PMHNP specialty. I applied to VUSN because it’s a top program and meets other practical criteria for me (cost, no GRE, etc). My question is this: other than clearly having a reputation for being a top program, does anyone have a clear idea of what sets VUSN apart from other top tier schools like UCSF and Yale? Although I’m thrilled for the opportunity and know it’s a great program, I’m having a hard time finding any concrete info online that would provide a unique take on why VUSN. I know this is something schools pride themselves on and I feel like my answer may be too generic. Any tips would be extremely helpful! Thank you!

Did you already have your interview? They kind of gonover this in the interview

Hey everyone! I applied to the AGACNP program but I applied pretty late in December. I currently work at Vanderbilt in the Surgical Step Down Unit as an RN, BSN. Getting nervous because I applied so late!! Anyone know anything about the acceptance rate and how often people get wait listed?? Good luck to everyone!!

I also applied as a direct-entry student for Agacnp. I currently work as an ICU nurse with 1.5 years experience and another 5 years with a mix of cardiac/tele, med surg and L&D. I’m not sure the average number accepted vs denied but I know they also had a large number of applicants this year. I have been told it’s more difficult to get a Middle Tennessee Placement for clinicals as they are more competitive vs distance options. Good luck to you!

Are there any current or former PMHNPs who can provide information about where many students end of getting employment after graduation from ? Do many students have offers before graduation? Thank you!

I'm preparing for the interview for this upcoming Monday and trying to see if I can get any info about the program that is outside of what they outline on the website. Something that would make my motivation for applying to VUSN more compelling than just saying it's a great program...

Hi LCSW, happy to share! I had a rough start to my interview as I unfortunately missed my original interview time (I did timezones wrong). I was incredibly fortunate to be able to reschedule my interview for later in the day. I feel like my interview went okay. I was asked some standard interview questions, and why Vanderbilt over UCSF (as I live in California). I definitely stumbled over that last one a little bit. As some other folks in this thread have pointed out, there's not a lot of obvious difference between UCSF and . I feel like I gave a decent answer for it, and tried to focus on population differences.

I'm surprised that your interviewers spoke at such length about their decision being so difficult! My interviewers said that the interview is to augment a mostly-made decision (though they may have been saying that so I wouldn't worry so much about missing my original slot, so who can say).

Interviewing "to augment a mostly-made decision" seems sensible. I would expect they choose to interview those people who look like good candidates on paper, simply to ensure that they sound relatable and answer some questions they don't ask in the application. You pick up tone and ease speaking with others (various things) that you can't when speaking vs just in print. I can't imagine they just interview everyone. (I do know they only interview PMHNP and CNM).

LCSWtoPMHNP, could something have happened during your interview to throw things off?

It's possible you simply had someone who felt the need to make sure you nothing was set in stone...that the interview didn't mean anything for certain.
