Vanderbilt MSN 2018

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!

Thank you Sierra for the run down it is helpful to have more information. My interview was similar to yours but my grades weren't talked about much, they actually let me have the majority of the time so that I could ask my question. Will have to see if that is a good or bad thing.

This is how mine went (PNP primary care). I had one interviewer, and she didn't have very many questions for me. She said it sounded like I had a great understanding of everything and mentioned that they try to have a diverse cohort so students can learn from one another. I'm 28, a military wife, 3 kids, former foster parent, and my background is in social work and nonprofits. My undergraduate degree is English. I started an MSW program, but after two semesters, the nursing field continues to call to me. I would love to be in a medically underserved community if I were to be accepted into the program. My qualitative GRE score isn't as great as some applicants, but I have a 4.0 in graduate school and a 3.9 in undergrad. I'm thinking (hoping) if we got an interview, they are now looking less at stats and more so at our essay questions.

Specializes in Midwife, OBGYN.
Tango, I did not apply to ucsf because they require a year of labor and delivery rn experience :(

Ah, I think I missed the part where you wrote you were already in a BSN program and you would be applying for direct entry. You have such great experience, you will do great at Vandy!

My interview for psyc started with the interviewers stating "we start interviews by clarifying any questions we had about your application". The interviewers did not require clarification from me on any items so moved straight into the four standard questions. It was a very laid back conversation; I've worked in middle TN in the field for over ten years so they asked me a number of very specific questions based on my history. There was time for me to ask 2 very brief questions at the end. The interview was about 25 minutes long and at the end they made several comments indicating that I would likely be considered for admission.

Has anyone with a BSN received an invitation to interview yet? I am getting anxious. Feb can't get here fast enough.

BamaOSU, I applied direct entry (I'll have my BSN) for midwifery and I have an interview on Wednesday. Which specialty did you apply for?

Hey I interviewed for psych as well, and my interviewer indicated almost very explicitly that I would be highly considered for admission... it was kind of strange. I'm used to software engineering interviews where they're required to be as stoic as possible and not give any indication as to how the interview itself went, much less what the end result will be...

So now I'm going insane, I want to get this spot sooo badly! Btw my interviewer said they'll be making decisions Jan. 22nd and that letters go out early February? It sounded a bit strange / hard to hear. I wish I had asked more questions. Does anyone have any idea what % will be admitted from the phone interviews?

I applied for Psych but part time. I haven't heard of speciality year students for psych yet. Here's to hoping I'm not out due to no interview.

If anyone from this year or even previous years wants to share their interview experience for PNP primary care, I'm super anxious to hear from another Peds person!

I hope everyone enjoys their holiday!

Has anyone received updates or any emails regarding the financial aid process? I applied for the FNP track and haven't received any communication with Vandy, with the exception of an email that my application was by the early admission deadline and is under review.....

Regarding the financial aid process- when I went to the program open house earlier this year they stated that everyone who is accepted is awarded a very small scholarship (3-4K$), and that there are two full tuition scholarships available each year- 1 for prespecialty students, 1 for specialty students- based solely on GPA/academic performance. Loans can be accessed by filling out the FAFSA. They stated that students can borrow the max amount each year (90k$!) to help defray living costs, as the program is "only" $60Kish. Makes me want to go stalk that loan repayment program thread on here....

No update emails or info about financial aid either.
