I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.
armor950, I haven't heard anything specifically about the FNP. I'm assuming that my interview is for FNM, since that's what I applied for, but on second look the email isn't too clear as to whether it's for CNM only or FNM:I am contacting you on behalf of the Nurse-Midwifery Program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Our faculty have reviewed your application and would like to set up a phone interview with you. We will be conducting these interviews over the next couple of weeks.
I think your interview is just for NMW, since that is the department that contacted you. In the past they've conducted interviews for dual applicants separately. Looking through last year's thread, FNP applicants didn't receive interviews. It could be different this year, though!
Thank you both, JHay220 and LaDiosa_M for your feedback!
I do think that the interview is for the CNM specialty, but I was wondering if you had also gotten a separate email from the FNP program saying that you'd been admitted. Just knowing that the FNP candidates were starting to get accepted would be exciting, though it would also make the wait so much harder!!
Just got off the phone with the Admissions department and received a good overview of the application process. PMHNP, NMW & FNP will interview some, but not all applicants. Applications are reviewed by faculty members in the specialty and due to their individual work load some are able to review earlier and some waited until exams & grades where complete. So this is why the interview email was received at different times. This year they have decided to notify all early action - Nov. 1st (admit, wait list & deny) applicants at the same time, which will be no later than mid February. This timing is due to some specialties having a larger applicant pool (FNP & PMHNP). They recommended that I relax & enjoy the holidays, complete my prerequisites and taxes for the FAFSA in the meantime!
