Vanderbilt MSN 2015

Published

Hello,

I am applying for the MSN program in '15, due in December. I was wondering if anyone knew how much weight the GRE holds, in regards to being competitive? I am a little nervous about my scores not being competitive. Any advice will help!

Best regards,

For those who like stats and haven't seen this on the VU website yet:

VUSN By The Numbers 2014

Master of Science in Nursing Enrollment by Specialty:

AG-ACNP- 110 students

AG-PCNP- 63 students

FNP- 116 students

Emergency NP- 24 students

Healthcare Leadership- 9 students

Nursing Informatics- 5 students

Neonatal NP- 28 students

Nurse Midwifery- 36 students

CNM/FNP-28 students

Psychiatric Mental Health NP- 94 students

Pediatric Primary Care NP- 82 students

Pediatric Acute Care NP-33 students

Women's Health NP- 36 students

Women's Health/AG-PCNP- 26 students

Student Demographics by Average Age:

Pre-Specialty- 26 years old

RN PreSpecialty- 35 years old

DNP- 41 years old

PhD- 40 years old

Post-Master's- 42 years old

(They didn't list a Direct Entry MSN average age).

Gender:

Male: 11%

Female: 89%

479 Full-Time Students

368 Part-Time Students

15% Minority Student Enrollment

This is the current class' statistics. I'm sure these numbers will be pretty different by this time next year. :nurse:

Isn't the direct entry MSN Prespecialty? Versus RN entry which would be RN Prespecialty? Just when I thought I had figured out the lingo... Ha!

Thanks for posting the numbers but I'm taken aback by the psych numbers as compared to some other specialties.

Psychiatric Mental Health NP- 94 students

Is this the overall student enrollment, or just for newly enrolled/admitted students in 2014?

I'm completely confused now. I thought RN Prespecialty was BSN. Is it ASN?

Yeah, there's pre-specialty non-RN, pre-specialty RN (RN with ASN), and direct-entry (RN with BSN). Basically those who are pre-specialty go through the "pre-specialty" year first, but those who already have a BSN go right into their "specialty" year. I know. It's totally confusing! :)

I found this a couple weeks ago, but didn't want to add to anyone's anxiety. It says in FAQ section of the PMHNP section of Vandy's website they say they typically accept fewer than even THAT low number.

That actually seems like a LOT compared to the program I'm interviewing at tomorrow. Yale accepts maybe 20 people per specialty. I spoke to someone who recently finished their PMHNP program and there were 12 people in their cohort. Still, you're right, 40-50/yr is not very many at all. They must be weighing everyone's pro/cons before making any decisions and taking their sweet time with each spot!

I'm curious what the average class size. The enrolling number must be smaller than the number accepted so I'm sure that helps curb class size.

Anybody heard anything about FNP yet? I'm getting anxious lol I'm ready to know what my options are and if I get to visit Nashville soon or not! Haha. I just hate calling, just in case they are taking notes about who annoys and bugs them the most ;)
