Roll call!!
I am totally down for a little get-together once we're all settled in! I'm moving into the Lexington on August 12, probably be free of move-in obligations by the 16th or 17th. I'm getting psyched for orientation; kinda wish they would post a schedule of orientation activities on the website already, I like to know what to expect ahead of time
I'm at the hospital right now (last 2 days of boot camp!) but can post a synopsis of last years' orientation. I'm sure they change things up some, but it may be a guide for what to expect at least. I can promise LONG days of sitting!
There are fridges/microwaves available if you want to bring snacks and/or lunch. Typically they will serve you lunch at least one of the days or orientation. Casual dress and the air conditioning is always too cold so you'll want a sweater or something. Specific questions?
M- I am a RN but I don't have a BSN, so I am doing RN pre specialty now and ACNP portion next fall!
Awesome, at least I know one person for the specialty year. I'm curious what kind of courses you'll be taking as an RN in comparison to mine--are they like liberal arts classes or more nursing theory-based stuff? Just wondering. I sorta wished Vandy would grant a BSN in addition to the MSN for posterity's sake, but I suspect with the school's stellar reputation it won't affect us in the workforce (hope I'm right, at least!) I'm still having a hard time wrapping my mind around just how fast life is going to change for us all in the next two years... it's a bit overwhelming at times.
Hey meredith09 I will also be starting the prespecialty program this fall. I was hoping to try and get to know a few people before school starts!! Have you moved down here yet??
Hey Midtown!
Psyched to see another prespecialty peep here on AN. I haven't moved to Nashville yet, I'll be arriving there on the 12th. It's 2.5 days on the road from where I live right now, plus I'm making a stop in Memphis on the way to visit some of my old college friends. Are you living in Nashville now? I was just there a little over a week ago to secure an apartment, so I made a point of finding the SON, our parking garage and all that. Getting super excited, like I think we all are! Have you posted on the Oak discussion board yet? I'm trying to keep track of how many ACNP prespecialty students there are-- so far I think there's only three or four of us!
We moved here the end of May! My husband had to start his job right away, which has made for a very boring summer. I hope to be able to walk to school, it only takes 15 minutes from my apartment :) I'll have to check into the oak discussion board! I'm not the same specialty I am studying womens health and adult care, but Im sure we will all spend a lot of time together are first year.

Orientation may be totally different this year than it was last year...but this is pretty much how it went:
Monday we were there from 0800 - 1530 with breaks in a.m. and p.m. & they gave us lunch
Tuesday we were there from 0830 - 1200 and then had some time to do things like get parking passes, respirator mask fitting, etc.
Wednesday we were there from 0930 - 1430-ish. During lunch we met with our specialty program director as a group
Thursday we were there from 0900 - 1200.
Somewhere during that week we picked up our personalized lab coats and lab packs with some assessment necessities inside.
Classes started the following Monday with a full schedule, to the best of my recollection. Hope that helps!
Yes, you have to pay for your parking pass for the 25th street garage. It's about $100 for 2 semesters; I just renewed mine for the 2 months of summer and it was only $20. Gotta pay cash (well, you know, real money as opposed to financial aid-type money) for the parking sticker. We're low on the totem pole so we have to park on the upper floors! It may sound expensive, but parking around campus is a NIGHTMARE as you may imagine, so it's really the only viable option. There are shuttle busses to take the lazy to class from the garage. It's a good 12-min walk when the weather's good. There are tunnels to walk in when the weather is miserable, which happened a lot last winter!
