Vanderbilt 2021 Direct Entry

Published

Hey guys!

Vandy's application opens tomorrow! I am so anxious to start the application. There is a Pre-Specialty thread already started so I want to start this one for direct entry. Post questions, comments, experiences, and anything else. Good luck everyone! You've got this!

Hello everyone, I have started my admissions application for Vanderbilt's MSN Speciality FNP program with a Fall 2021 start date. I have known that I wanted to become a FNP and do so by attending Vanderbilt's MSN program since I first started nursing school in December 2017. I am a RN with a little over 2 years of experience and I am currently in a RN to BSN program that I am supposed to graduate from in February 2021. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA in the RN to BSN program but had a 2.82 GPA in my pre-licensure RN program. So, I am nervous about this. I wish everyone the best of luck.

Hello everyone! I am so nervous and excited to start my application! I am coming in with a bachelor's in Psychology and am currently finishing up my prereqs. I have a few questions for the masses. I wonder, is it better to have 2 professional, 1 professor referrals or 1 professional, 2 professor referrals? Also, who do you all have reviewing your applications? When I was applying for undergrad, I had high school counselors who walked me through the process. Of course, I can complete the application and gather the materials myself, but I would love a proofreader. Lastly, I see that a GRE is not required, but is the TEAS a requirement? Is that something we do after we are accepted?

Good luck on the application process and I hope to see everyone in the classroom Fall 2021!!

Hey! I sent in three professor ones but they were also my clincial instructors. I felt that showed my diverse skills in and out of the classroom. I think if you have a professional referal such as a boss, I would make sure to include.

Hello everyone! So excited to be applying to vanderbilt! I am applying to the PMHNP program straight out of my BSN program. Anyone else?

Do they need to receive all the transcripts by Oct 15th as well?

Hello.

I also applied to PMHNP program. I am currently enrolled in BSN program about to graduate in this Dec. This is my second degree, my first degree is in Business Administration like 10 years ago.

I have alot of career experience but not in medical field.

I am little concerned about this..

I asked two faculty at nursing school , and one of my boss from old job for reference letters. My old job  has nothing to do with nursing. I am little worried..

My nursing GPA 3.88

I applied pmhnp, direct MSN, out of Nashville, and parttime.

How about you guys??

Hey! I am applying PMHNP, direct, greater nashville, and full time! I honestly think you will be fine with experience as long as you can bring in other experiences. I talked about being my grandmother's caregiver, clubs I was in charge of, volunteer work,. etc. I think its all about synthesizing your life experience into answering their prompts.

How did you all calculate your major GPA? In my program, we are pre-nursing with prereqs and then apply to nursing school after two years. Do I include all of those classes, including pre-reqs? Or only the ones that are upper divison nursing?

I went to different school for nursing, so it was different GPA from pre-requisite. I just recorded the GPA on each school's transcript .

I think so. Everything needs to allegedly be "completed" by October 15th. Makes me nervous because I told my manager back in June about the application opening in August, with a due date of 10/15. So that's the only reference I am "missing"! Otherwise, all my transcripts have been sent to CDM.

But to reply to others, I have my BSN, been working bedside for 3 years, and I am certified in my area of nursing (progressive care). I am applying for the adult-gero primary care track. My true end goal is to become an adult cardiology NP ? My only hold up is that I had a 3.0 undergrad GPA, nursing was my second academic degree and between my pre-reqs, RN program (got my associate's first), then BSN programs, I have an average of a 3.5 GPA. I hope they take my progress into consideration.

I hope everyone was able to submit their application on time! Now, the wait begins!

I emailed VUSN admissions and Sandy Church confirmed my application was complete for review this morning! She also said that decisions would be sent out mid-February by email.

? Good luck everyone!!

Hello and good luck to everyone who submitted their admissions application before the October 15 Early Decision deadline! I thought that by moving the deadline from November 15 to October 15 that VUSN would make admission decisions sooner than mid-February but I guess not. This will probably be the longest 4.5 months ever. LOL.

Question - for those who submitted their admissions application, did any of you upload any documents under the "Upload Materials" heading? You get the option to upload documents to this section after submitting your application so I believe it is optional but I am not sure. I should have called or e-mailed VUSN and asked if it was required or encouraged but I didn't want to add to the heaping amount of work and stress that I imagine they have.
