  1. I also did not receive an e-mail from Vandy but I checked my online application and I see that I was ACCEPTED!! I will be starting the specialty FNP program this fall! Congrats to all those who were accepted or waitlisted... and to those who did not receive the news that they were hoping for... know that you simply ran into a Yield sign, NOT a Stop sign and that it is still very much within your power to achieve your dream of becoming a NP.
  2. I received my ADN and became a RN a few years ago. I am still in my BSN program, that will be completed by the end of this month (Feb 2021). So, while I am a RN, I have not officially completed my BSN program, so I can relate to the nervousness you feel relating to not having your RN compared to me not having my BSN. I think as long as you have everything in hand before the program starts, you will be fine. They probably have a certain number of spots for each type of applicant. I hope to hear something concrete soon.
  3. Hello everyone. I just received a call from Vanderbilt University. My heart dropped when the caller ID said Tennessee. The lady stated she called because I am in New York State and clinicals can’t be completed there so I have to give her another location that I will complete clinicals. I said Atlanta, GA or anywhere in Pennsylvania. She said she would put Atlanta but that I would be able to do clinicals anywhere except NYS or Tennessee. Then I said OK and she said, OK, thank you, good bye. I think that only made me more nervous and anxious than ever. Does that mean I’m accepted? Did anyone else get a similar call? I already knew when I applied that I would not be able to complete clinicals in NYS so I thought I had already selected to complete them elsewhere (outside of the Tennessee area). Fingers crossed. I applied to the FNP speciality program. I am already a RN.
  4. Hello and good luck to everyone who submitted their admissions application before the October 15 Early Decision deadline! I thought that by moving the deadline from November 15 to October 15 that VUSN would make admission decisions sooner than mid-February but I guess not. This will probably be the longest 4.5 months ever. LOL. Question - for those who submitted their admissions application, did any of you upload any documents under the "Upload Materials" heading? You get the option to upload documents to this section after submitting your application so I believe it is optional but I am not sure. I should have called or e-mailed VUSN and asked if it was required or encouraged but I didn't want to add to the heaping amount of work and stress that I imagine they have.
  5. Hello everyone, I have started my admissions application for Vanderbilt's MSN Speciality FNP program with a Fall 2021 start date. I have known that I wanted to become a FNP and do so by attending Vanderbilt's MSN program since I first started nursing school in December 2017. I am a RN with a little over 2 years of experience and I am currently in a RN to BSN program that I am supposed to graduate from in February 2021. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA in the RN to BSN program but had a 2.82 GPA in my pre-licensure RN program. So, I am nervous about this. I wish everyone the best of luck.
  6. Hello and thanks to everyone who offered encouragement and/or advice. I am happy to report that I not only passed my first semester but was accepted/transferred into my school's accelerated program, making my projected graduation June 2018 instead of December 2018. I appreciate everyone who encouraged me to try various things and stay motivated. I personally believe "you attract more bees with honey than you do with vinegar." I was a bit discouraged and shocked by the "mean" and/or discouraging remarks and comments that made it seem as if "it was all said and done" or that there was no way to recover because in my case, it was and I thankfully ended up passing my first semester. In three nursing courses, I got an A, a B, and a C+. I don't think that's too bad for my first semester. I write this long response to thank those who encouraged me and to make it known to any nursing students who may be reading this, that it's not over, until it's over. Don't ever give up! As the semester came to an end, I began to realize that many people were struggling and that because of my college's testing policy, many people (including myself) were considered "passing" after one exam and "failing" after another, just because of the average of all exams combined. Because my school is set up like this, contrary to what one comment said, "I should've sought help in the beginning of the semester", I didn't seek help in the beginning of the semester, because I wasn't "at-risk of failing" in the beginning of the semester. This being my first semester in nursing school (even with a previously earned degree), I have realized that this is an entirely different experience. I have heard stories from classmates who were passing up until the last exam (the final), who failed the entire course because they didn't get a certain/passing score on just one of four exams. We shouldn't get on allnurses and try to discourage people because of a bump in the road. We are all either nurses or aspiring to become nurses. Again, thanks everyone. Wish me luck in my program! Because I am now in the accelerated program, I start my next term, tomorrow.
  7. Hello, I am in my first semester of nursing school. I started this journey in January 2017. Currently, I am taking NURS 101, NURS 102 (Holistic Health Assessment) and NURS 103 (Health Concepts). I have an A average in NURS 101 but I am right below 75% (passing grade) in NURS 102 and 103. I have been studying using the assigned readings, youtube videos, flash cards, and NCLEX-style practice questions. For some reason, I have the hardest time with the school exams. I always score between 70-76%. The semester is almost over and on these last few exams, I must get between 80-85% (or higher) to pass these courses and move on. I am very frustrated and worried. I am trying my best. At my school, if you fail two nursing courses, you are automatically dismissed from the program. I do not want this to happen. Does anyone have any suggestions or guidance on what I can do to reinforce the concepts I have learned this semester and do better on the upcoming exams that will determine whether I progress to the next semester or not? Study tips, helpful websites, great learning videos, similar experiences (near pass/fail) Alternatively, if you fail out of one nursing program (dismissed), how does one go about moving forward? Doesn't other programs frown on applicants who've failed out of a program already? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hey all, I am looking forward to starting the program. I am going to orientation on 1/11-1/13. I wonder if that is just the orientation for the day program or if it is for the evening/weekend program as well.
  9. I GOT MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER TODAY!! â˜ºï¸í ½í¹‚í ½í¹ƒ I am so excited but at the same time, nervous that this is all real! See you all in January! If you know of any affordable places to live, please let me know. #ClassOf2018
  10. OMG!! I hope so! Don't get my hopes up... lol. That's what I've been told from numerous people familiar with the program, I just don't wanna assume because it's so close to January. I've started looking for apartments though and I have already secured a part time job to work on weekends in Syracuse. My fingers are crossed!!
  11. I'm so nervous, I just wanna know!!!! I can't stop wondering how I will feel when I get the letter, not knowing what it will say and having to read it multiple times to confirm it says what I think it says when I read it the first time. I can't stop thinking, what kind of envelope does it come in? How does it look? My mind keeps racing with thoughts of moving to Syracuse with my family there to attend the day program and how rigorous the program will be. I think I am filled with a healthy amount of nervousness and fright... lol. I hope so. I just wanna know. Being that the program starts in January, I feel like the more time to prepare the better, even though I feel like if they really didn't like me and was considering me as a candidate, they wouldn't have suggested I consider the day program and then subsequently schedule me for an interview. I remember someone (on here) saying they applied to the day program and I believe they got accepted. If you read this, are you gonna accept the spot? I know you mentioned you considered attended St. Joe's as well.
  12. Fingers crossed! Hopefully I find out soon. I have a thank you card in the mail to Amy, which is who I interviewed with.
  13. Thank you Hg16 for your kind words. To all those who have been accepted, has any of your statuses changed on the online application on Sonis Web? Under disposition, it used to say "In Process" and now, as of 11/16, it says "Moving Forward." Also, I took the placement exam and it shows the date for that but another line under Checklist Items has been added that says Placement exam with no date completed.... Hmmm??? Any thoughts? I am so nervous waiting for the results. I know most people have said they received a letter about a week after their interview so it looks like things move pretty fast after the last requirement, the interview.
  14. Hello NursingBird, The interview went great in my opinion! I really enjoyed the fact that it was more conversation based than anything else. She let me know I probably would be more appropriate for the daytime program because I don't have that many science courses completed. I said that would be fine. I could work that out and so I am now being considered for the daytime program starting in January instead of the evening/weekend program. Fingers crossed.
  15. I got invited to an interview! It is this Monday. Can anyone tell me what kind of questions they will ask and how to best prepare for the interview? Thanks in advance!!
