Hi AllNurses Universe,
I'm thrilled to announce that I have been accepted to the Direct Entry MSN program for ACNP-Intensivist this fall! Is anyone else out there?
I moved here a couple of weeks ago! Looking forward to orientation. I have a question about technology. I own a laptop (a Mac) and a crappy cellphone. To those who have been through their prespecialty year, what pieces of technology were necessary. I don't want to lug my laptop back and forth to school. Did you just take notes the old fashioned way with pen and paper? I got my undergrad degree 12 years ago, so much has changed!

I was prespeciality last year and will graduate in a few days. The only "technology" you need for lectures is your enthusiasm, so don't worry about lugging stuff back and forth. It's a long walk from the parking garage to VUSN so don't hurt yourself! The lecture note PowerPoints are posted to OAK prior to class (usually at least one day prior) and you can either print them and add your own notes by hand OR convert them and add notes on your laptop. Although the second method is faster, I recommend doing it the old fashioned way since it's more memorable to you if you have to write it down. Also, you don't run the risk of playing around on Facebook or shopping for wedding dresses during lecture if you leave the laptop at home! (Amazing how much wedding dress shopping went on in the middle of a lecture we paid a LOT of $$$ to experience!!)
I don't know how crappy your cell is, but you will likely need textability during clinical rotations - but you don't need a bunch of fancy stuff on there. You'll write care plans and look up all the info you need for diagnoses and meds the night before clinicals, at home, with your laptop.
Best of luck and ENJOY it...it goes by so fast!

Hey everyone!
I got accepted to the RN Pre-Specialty program too (Nursing Informatics)! Haven't received anything about financial aid so I called yesterday and Kristie said she had all my information and that I was getting loans, etc and that I should receive my letter any day now (running to the mailbox everyday). I'm staying at the Hampton Inn West End and plan on driving up Monday night. Hope to see you guys there!
