Valencia College Spring 2016

Published

Hello everyone,

I know it may be a little early but who will be applying to Valencia's nursing program for spring 2016? I will be submitting my application next week and I just wanted to start a thread to see if anyone submitted their application already!

Hi! I hope you don't mind me putting my 2 cents in.... But I would steer clear of Keiser. I was planning on attending their RN program, took a semesters worth of prereqs there (Which put me $6,000 in debt for only ONE semester!) and they lied to me about so many things! First, I work at Orlando Health and Keiser students do not do clinicals here. When I asked a Keiser counselor why she told me it was because they CHOSE not to. Well that is not true. I asked a nursing manager here at Orlando Health and they said that Keiser used to have access here and they were kicked out! The students were not up to par, and they messed up big time on multiple occasions. This is the Orlando campus.

My friend currently attends the Lakeland campus and regrets it. She is only a couple months away from finishing, but she has been bullied so badly by teachers and students that she had to transfer to another campus. She said the teachers do not care about the students, and they will almost TRY and fail you. I ran as fast as I could away from Keiser! But Orlando Tech is a GREAT school! I did medical laboratory assisting program there and got a job before I even graduated! The school is small, but it is amazing! Hopefully you don't think I am being rude, but I like to warn people about keiser before they spend close to 40,000 on an associates degree!!!

I applied on July 7th and I am still waiting to hear back! I am so anxious waiting!!!

I appreciate your advice!

I've been at Keiser for the last year and had a great experience on the contrary. I'm so sorry you had a bad experience.

I work for FL hospital and Keiser students frequent the halls and are quiet and in line. I've spoken to most students and they have had nothing but positive things to say other than the price tag. I get 25% discount plus 5250 tuition reimbursement/year so it works out well for me.

It's unfortunate that people have such different experiences.

I honestly do feel like I am getting what I pay for.

That's good then. Hopefully you get an education worth the money! My semester there wasn't bad at all, I got a lot of personal attention, but when a counselor lies straight to my face there is no coming back from that. I have even asked a few nursing managers here at Orlando Health about Keiser vs. Valencia vs. Seminole State and I got mixed responses. Most said they wouldn't hire a Keiser graduate until they have a couple years experience, but this was only a few managers and that is not speaking on behalf of the entire hospital. Just make sure to ask as many questions as possible, and do not let them lie to you! Best of luck to you, and don't let anyone bully you!

Thank you I appreciate it. And I'm a researcher who asks a million questions so they won't be ********ting me. I'll call them out quick

I almost made the mistake of going to City College in altamonte because I didn't ask questions! That school is even more expensive and only had one nursing class finish, and their classes aren't accredited!! I almost made a HUGE mistake lol so glad I didn't.

I agree with ^^^ I've have also submitted my application to the Valencia spring semester and prior to doing so I've spoken to many current students at diff schools. Worst review I got was from a Keiser student who said they have horrible professors and if tou have any interest in maternity then kiss it goodbye if you go to Keiser. It's 3x the cost too. Best review was from former SCC students. I chose Valencia for convenient since I live 10mins from the campus. But in all its your choice, just beware and please take people's feedback into consideration. Good luck!

Yeah I think the problem with Keiser is that while you take prereqs the classes are small and it's a great experience, but when you start the actually program it's a different story. I mean they are a for profit private school, they are all about the money! I just hate seeing people be taken advantage of at that school and ending up almost 50,000 in debt from an associates degree?! You still have to go back and get your bachelors and that's even MORE money.

😱. They are no longer for profit but I get it. It's hard to get out of a bad rep.

The thing is that I'm not crazy about public schools is I feel like a number. I feel like it's a process to get the attention I need whether it be from advisors or professors, I think it's easy to get lost in the mix.

I like Keiser because it's small classes. I get to know my professors and they get to know me. I feel like I'm challenged and not just given a grade. I feel I have to earn it especially when it came to upper level classes.

They're moving in the right direction. They are trying to lose that bad rep and I think that's the hardest thing. I transferred from an out of state private university and had the same experience. I'm taking some classes at Valencia this fall and it took me a month to get in and get scheduled. With Keiser I call my advisor and tell her what I want and she schedules it.

I feel like at the price I should have that experience and I do get.it.

As always thank you to everyone for always looking out I appreciate people who are skeptical.

I can say I did like the small classes when I did the prereqs and you do get individual attention. Hopefully they can get a better reputation over the next couple years, because they do have the potential! Good luck to you! You seem very smart so I'm sure you will do GREAT no matter where you go!

I just got my email that I was accepted for spring 2016! It took about 9 weeks for my email to come back! I am so excited!

Congratulations! I know you must be super excited! I just submitted my application on the 3rd and I'm worried that maybe I submitted it too late. I also just submitted an application to the concurrent program. Did you receive your acceptance email on your atlas email?
