Valencia College 2019 Orlando

Published

Hello!

I have a question for any Valencia College students in Orlando, Florida. How many of you are currently waiting to be accepted into nursing school for 2019? I submitted my application in June 2018, got wait-listed before the Spring term started. I'm currently waiting to be accept for the Summer or Fall 2019 term. Please share the date you submitted your application, if you've been accepted or any news on the status of your application. Would love to share our experiences. THANKS!

I never received an email at all about the reviewing my application and what not. I wonder why they never sent me one? I applied on 12/7, however they didn't get my payment until 1/3, which is kind of concerning. With all of this waitlist talk, it's kind of disappointing considering that I graduated with my A.A last May, and I'd literally be doing nothing for the next 7 months other than working when I wanted to start school now. Honestly thinking about having other choices and a plan B just incase I do get waitlisted because I really want to start in Summer. I spoke to a lady who was a nursing advisor back sometime around November/December and she said that they raised the amount of people that they accept into the program, and that not a lot of people got waitlisted for summer who originally applied for Spring. She also said that not a lot of people apply for Summer because everyones intimidated to take Nursing I over the summer with there being less time than a normal semester. She told me there's no reason why I shouldn't get in and that most people who get accepted for Summer usually defer until Fall anyway.

Jenna,

If a person was accepted into the summer program, do they then have the choice of deferring their entry to the fall? Or, does that person have to reapply again and be put back into the queue?

A person does not have to reapply again, I would message your advisor to make sure how to differ the application for fall. Also the reviewing application email is an automatic email sent out, it does not mean they are actually looking at your application. So don’t be alarmed if you do not get one. I would keep in contact with your advisor and don’t be afraid to ask them questions, even if you think they are silly. My advisor has answered any questions that have asked, really has kept my anxiety down.

Hello everyone,

I know that Valencia CC states 65% for the teas score is the minimum but I got a 72% should I retake my TEAS?

Hi, Chaely! Good job on passing the TEAS! If you're aiming for Valencia's Traditional RN program, a 72% is fine! They accept all applicants who meet the minimum requirements on a first come, first served basis.

If you're considering their UCF Concurrent program or ATN (or a different University/College), you may want to earn a higher score. Again, though, you've exceeded the requirement for Valencia's traditional ADN. ?

Have you worked on prereqs yet?

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, I have completed all the prereqs and am looking forward to getting in somewhere. I was rejected from a university in SC where I currently am leaving. I’m scared of rejection again but I’m gonna try to continue applying to see if I can get in somewhere. I will be moving to Orlando soon. What should my gpa look like?

Thats honestly a great question. I would try and see if you could contact or email the health sciences admissions office and see if you can get an answer as soon as possible! If you have your mind set on Fall, you can always put in your application now.

Hey Chaely! Your TEAS score at GPA isn't a huge factor. As long as you have a 64.9% at minimum, you're automatically qualified, (assuming you've met all of the other requirements as well). Having a higher score doesn't put you higher up or lower down on the totem poll than the next person who may have gotten a higher or lower TEAS score. Your GPA has to at least be a 3.0 all around, (including transfer work if coming from another school). Here's the qualifications.

  • 3.0 overall including transfer work
  • 3.0 in between Anatomy 1, Anatomy 2, and Micrbiology.
  • 3.0 in between Nutrition with Diet therapy, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, 1 Humanities course, and English 1.
  • At least a 64.9% on your TEAS

As long as you have met all of those requirements you can go ahead and apply to the program of your interest and pay a $15 application fee before the priority deadline for whichever semester your anticipating on getting in.

Good luck!

I took the TEAS yesterday. Would it expire? Can I still use the same score a year from now?

TEAS score are valid for 2 years after you've taken it. Unless the update the teas and would want everyone to take the new one. Sometimes they wanna accept the scores from the more recent tests. That's if they update it any time soon. Aren't you applying for the Nursing program this year?

We’re a military family and we’re still living in SC but will be moving in about a year from now. Hopefully they don’t come up with another version anytime soon

Good luck with your moving plans! Have you lived in FL before it will it be your first time?

Valencia is a good option to consider for nursing, but you may have additional school choices for ADN like Polk State, Seminole State College, Lake-Sumter, etc. I think their requirements are similar and you actually have a leg up at Polk State if you've got prereqs done. I don't know what their admissions processes look like, though. For Valencia, it probably wouldn't hurt to get an application in at least a semester before you think you'll be here. ?

Valencia sent out an email about class registration dates! Early registration begins Feb. 19th! Clock's ticking ?
