I am a traveling man! In my short amount of time living I have traveled extensively. My best holidays were hiring a car and traveling the Tuscan region of Northern Central Italy. From Como to Florence in Winter. Hitting Milan and Genoa on the way down to Sienna and Pisa and then across to Florence. The food was spectacular and I took in a few soccer games as well.
What was your excellent vacation?

Know Ireland well. My mom's family is Irish. Dingle peninsula is amazing and driving up to the cliffs of Moher I think it's called and then taking a boat out to those islands where they do the wool sweaters etc.

The first year I went to Paris, sil and I visited the Roman amphitheater remains there: https://www.parisdiscoveryguide.com/arenes-de-lutece.html
One of the best places I've visited is Naples. It's an amazing city with too much to see. If you want ancient and real Italian, Naples is the place for you. You can see Vesuvius in the background, take a ferry to Capri, the blue grotto and venture a drive on the Amalfi coastline.
Naples is a one of a kind experience. It's very hilly, but good public transportation helps you find everything without too much trouble. Rent a vespa for the day or you will be stuck in traffic forever. Amazing ruins and so much history. Imagine, I think it's Naples anyway, but their new cathedral was built in the 12th century! Oh, and the pizza is brilliant. Don't go all fancy with toppings because the real mafia will intervene! Serious!
Don't go with American expectations, just go with the flow. There's nothing like this in the new world.
