UWorld RN prep.. Is it reliable?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am scheduled to take the NCLEX-RN on June 28th, 2016.

I'm freaking out and wanting your opinion.

I completed the Kaplan live review & 60% of the qbank with an average score of 71.

I completed the Hurst live review and completed the specialty topics in the book on my own. I have reviewed the entire Hurst book once more, and wrote down the things I felt I needed to be stronger with.

Now, I have purchased UWorld and taking about 100 questions a day/5 days a week. I am scoring mostly mid-60s, my low being a 55 and my high being a 68. UWorld says I'm in the 85th percentile compared to the average.

I am not sure if I should feel confident with this or if UWorld simply is leading me to be more confident than I should be... and I am not as prepared as I need to be.

What do y'all think about UWorld?

Should I continue my study plan with it or integrate Kaplan/Hurst back into the plan?

To be honest with you, I don't remember specific topics from my NCLEX. I felt as if it were all over the place! I'm sorry I couldn't better help. I guess now that I'm working & have my license, the NCLEX has left my brain lol

I graduated 12/2016 and I took my nclex February 2, 2017, and passed with 75 questions. I always get horrible test anxiety so I never know how I'll do on exams. I was shocked when the screen turned blue after 75 questions.

I didn't feel like I aced it, Nclex is meant to be a challenge. But I wasn't surprised by the questions or the Nclex style due to Uworld. Looking back on it I was prepared, despite the fear and trembling. Lol.

So now I just want to share my experience and hopefully it can help someone considering using UWorld.

A little background, everyone I knew was using Kaplan. But I refused to buy Kaplan due to costs. So i took a chance and purchased UWorld based on what I read on allnurses.com.

I used UWorld, (mostly), Lecharity book on prioritation, delegation and assignments, nclex mastery app and the 35 page study guide from this site.. I read every rational whether I got it right or wrong and made notes.

I did 100 questions/day for 4 weeks. Those 4 weeks were very structured study time taking hours everyday. (During Nursing school I did Nclex mastery app questions, about 5 to 25/day).

What I liked most about UWorld was their rationals, they gave just the right amount of detail, often in color, with pictures or charts, they provided the necessary info so I had no need to drag out my textbook after every question to look stuff up.

Two days before my test date, I was burned out on questions. So i took a mental break from questions and just reviewed my notes and the 35 page study guide.

The day before my exam I just relaxed from all studying. I know my husband must of thought I was crazy to not study the day before my BIG Nclex exam, but I was sick of questions. ..I'm so glad I took that break.

I am so thankful to everyone who posted about their success with Uworld. The questions were challenging and like everyone has said the format was very similar to the Nclex. My average was 58â„… and when I took their assessment exam I scored "very high" on passing the nclex the first time. ...

p.s. I paid the $8 to Pearson Vue this morning for my quick results.... Am a registered nurse! UWorld was awesome for me and I Highly recommend it!!!

Congrats!! I am using Kaplan since our school paid for it . I will purchase UWORLD after I finish all Kaplan Qbank.

Hi I am using Uworld and just tried another source that seems much harder. I test in a week. Do you recall what your Uworld score range was prior to testing? Thank you.

I studied with Uworld and my NCLEX exam stopped at 265 questions. Pearsonvue trick didn't work for me. I believe I failed the NCLEX and I don't believe Uworld helped.

Hi I'm sorry I am just seeing your post. Did you fail as you thought you may have? If so, and you still have access to Uworld, did you read all of the rationales? I found that I could only do about 40 questions a day because the rationales were so extensive. If that did not work for you, though, another one I came across that was quite good and very inexpensive was NCLEXmastery.com. My classmate used this and passed in 75 questions. I checked it out and had I not already paid for Uworld would have used Mastery instead. If you are re-taking good luck. And if you passed, congrats.

My uworld score before taking NCLEX was mostly mid 60s, 87th percentile.

I not only read the rationales but i wrote down most of them in a bullet point note format. Even if I thought I knew the topic well, I'd still write down something from each question I got wrong & sometimes things from the questions I got right.

I truly believe that uworld is how I passed. The NCLEX was set up identically to uworld & I felt comfortable testing because it felt familiar.

I passed first nclex try in 75 questions. The Pearson vue trick worked for me.

Good luck y'all! My best advice is to invest the time to study. This is one of the most important tests of your life! I studied 4-5 hours 5 days a week. Focusing mostly on uworld & Kaplan as well as my NCLEX review books.

I used RN Mastery and it was good but I still thought UWorld was way better. RN Mastery had very difficult questions too but I thought their rationales were inadequate in numerous questions and many questions didn't have rationales to the incorrect options.

RN Mastery also lacked any alternate questions, they only had MC and SATA (ordered questions in a MC format because the app doesn't support drop and drag). They also didn't have much prioritization questions (and I had quite a few of them on the NCLEX). Nonetheless, I still highly recommend it.

Hey UWORLD IS GREAT!!!!!

If you choose to get it...don't focus too much on your percentage as you do the q bank, my overall was about a 55 when I finished all the questions. & I took the Nclex end of last month and passed first try! I think whats most important is the your review all the rationales and make sure you focus on Safety, Infection control, and priority questions!

Hi all. I'm a foreign educated nurse. I have been studying on saunders book and did questions on saunders Q&A kaptest and uworld. I believe uworld has the best rationales.i have done, on uworld, about 1300 questions so far and i have an overall score of 59%. I hope it is good enough...i'm still waiting to hear from my bon about My eligibility.

Yes uworld really works, I just took my boards and I passed
