Uworld during nursing school

Published

Hello everyone,

I have been reading a lot of great reviews from all nurses regarding uworld for nclex. I want to know if it is beneficial to have uworld during nursing school. I am currently on my 1st semester and currently taking fundamentals and pathophysiology.

i am currently using review and rationales and fundamentals success. I love how review and rationales for pathophysiology and fundamentals have the important things I need to know and skipped all the fluffs from my book. As for fundamentals success, I purchased this book to practice how to do well in answering nursing questions. I love how fundamentals success displays explanation on right and wrong answers; however, some of the rationales are very vague.

My school uses ATI for exams and I dislike how it contradicts some of the information written on my professor's PowerPoint. I am not a big fan of ATI and still struggling on answering nclex style questions.

again, let me know if any of you would recommend uworld during nursing school til I take the nclex (a 15mos from now)

Keep using UWorld. Just go through the motions with ATI. Your experience doesn't seem much different from most others' experience with ATI (i.e. the contradictory information). Also, congratulations on studying for NCLEX/learning how to answer NCLEX-style questions at this stage in the game. You're doing exactly what you should be doing (just remember to give yourself a break and focus on studying other things for fun -- NCLEX studying can lead to burnout and you don't want to be burned out right before you graduate!). :nurse:

Thank you so much for this great piece of advice!

I found it beneficial to subscribe during the last few weeks of my last semester. It seems like a lot of money to spend to use all through school, especially since you won't have learned the core content of many of the subjects yet (mental health, OB, critical care, etc). I found it to be a great source for reviewing for the predictor exit exam (taken the last week of school) and for NCLEX itself though.

I used uWorld from the middle of the second semester until graduation; I found it very helpful. I'm now using it as one of my tools for preparing for the NCLEX-RN.

Congratulations! How has uworld helped you with confidence on answering questions so far?

I am still using uWorld; it continues to help as I prepare for the boards.

Just my person choice and opinion. I decided not to use UWorld until I'm actually preparing for the NCLEX, which is now, for couple of reasons. Based on overwhelming comments, UWorld is closest and even harder than NCLEX. I want to complete my BSN and use UWorld as a gauge of how well I could perform. If I had done the questions in the past, it's inevitable that I will remember some of the answers and the scores would not accurately depict my real ability.

Also, many questions on UWorld are far harder than other test prep materials and requires higher level of critical thinking. I think this only comes with time and repeated exposure to classes and clinical experience. I'm benefiting much more doing these questions now than I would have in my 2nd semester because I can clearly think through each question drawing from different classes and experience.

During nursing school I used Saunders Q&A NCLEX Review (online version). I liked it because it reinforced basic knowledge, and there a good mix of moderate to hard questions. I love the ATI books, and their exams always gave me a boost for my course grade.
