UW Oshkosh Acclerated Online October Cohort Applicants?

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Published

Anyone out there applying to the UW Oshkosh Online Accelerated program? I applied and am excited to hear if I got in! I'm worried about the expense and intensity, but at 40 years old I don't want to waste any time getting to that BSN, which is my ultimate goal. I live in Wisconsin but 3 hours from Oshkosh so it won't be a quick commute for the on-campus weeks.

Just hoping to connect with other applicants while we cross our fingers and wait!

Can anyone share any information about the interview process for the accelerated program? I know there is an e-mail interview, is that basically like an essay format? And then do you only get a phone interview if you "pass" the e-mail interview portion? Also what about timelines does anyone know how soon you have one after the other? Any information you'd be willing to share would be great! Thank you.

Yes, if you meet the requirements for the program you get an email interview. Then, if they like your responses via email, you get chosen for the phone interview. Basically that is a conference call with 3 nurse educators in the program. They ask you about your knowledge of the intensity of the program, ask you to describe yourself, and if you understand the technology required for the program. Then you sit and wait! I had the phone interview last month and they said it would be early June before they sent out letters of admission/denial.

Good luck to you in the process!

the email interview is 30 minutes long and you have to get it back in that time. everyone that meets the qualifications of the program gets and email interview. then within a few weeks i was notified that i would be having a phone interview. Its a basic interview , phone interviews are harder than i expected because you aren't going to get that feedback like in a face to face interview, so maybe practice having a friend doing a mock interview with you. Mostly just be yourself. Everyone in this program are 'adults' and have such vastly different life experiences. I couldn't find one 'magic' thing that we all had in common , so be yourself!! Good luck! I did not get into the october cohort and we were notified on june 12th by mail... I think the people that got in were notified a week or so earlier by email and then by mail.

RN what kind of questions are asked during the e-mail interview?? I'm thinking "why do you want to be a nurse", and so on..?

Has anyone out there applied for the October 2009 cohort?

I did my online interview shortly after my application was submitted in Oct. I did my phone interview a few weeks after that (end of Oct). I found out that I was accepted (for the May of 08-09 cohort) by email a couple weeks before Christmas (and was told not to expect to know anything until January).

The questions for my online interview weren't so much why do you want to be a nurse but more why do you want to be in THIS program, what have you done to prepare, what are your professional goals, why do you think you will be successful in this learning environment, etc.

(Oh and Cari001- I have emailed you a couple times now with the address you sent me...so if you haven't gotten anything from me, check your junk email?)

I am also interested in the 2010 cohorts. I have had my CNA for almost two years now, but haven't been able to use it because of school conflicts. But I'm really nervous that my lack of experience in CNA will prevent my entry into the program. People who I have talked to said that CNA experience is the biggest part of the application.

I'm trying to get a job, but the economy is so poor right now that it is impossible to find a job!! Any advise?? I don't need anything full time, part time is fine, but I need something to get experience. I've applied to a couple places, but they have been full. I'm getting really nervous because I want to continue on to grad school and if I don't get into the May program I would have to wait another year before continuing.

I would love any advise people have!!! (It would help me ease my mind!)

Anyone out there from the October 2009 cohort candidates finished with phone interviews?

have you had your's bueelle. :) hope it went well. we are 3 weeks in and finishing our first class tomorrow. i will say this...... I had heard mixed reports about how intense it is......im going with its quite intense. ;) but doable.

Yup I agree. I am in the May 2009 Cohort also and I am finishing up the first three week class and I am doing great! If you can read and comprehend at a fast pace, you will do just fine. Make sure to get the reading done early and spend the rest reviewing. I think it will he fast but wayyy doable. Though if you hate reading, not a program to go into!

I have my phone interview the first week of June....I'm wondering if that's a good sign? Any heads up for the phone interview?

Blueelle,

???? i think its a normal sign? they have 120 applicants and a time consuming process so i don't think there is any 'clue' when your interview is as to whether they are seriously considering you are not. My best advice is to know the info they send you , be confident , and be prepared for the awkwardness of not getting visual feedback for your answers. :) good luck!! the
