UVA MSN CNL 2015

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hi all, I've been lurking on the boards for about a year and a half now and finally the time has come for me to apply. I haven't found any boards about UVA MSN applicants for the 2015 cohort so I decided to start one. I'm also applying to VCU's ABSN program as well, and perhaps GMU and ODU, too.

I was hoping to get some feedback from others applying because truth be told, I'm very nervous about my stats because while I am above the minimum requirements for GPA and pre-reqs, they are still below the comparative applicant averages. I also am very interested in talking to others who are going through the process of applying!

I'm graduating this December with a BA in Philosophy from Virginia Tech. My GPA is 3.16 and I doubt it'll increase much more with this last semester I have ahead. I've completed all the pre-reqs with a 3.5 avg gpa and I'm going to take the GRE the beginning of September. I work as a care companion at a local nursing home and have experience with late-stage Alzheimer's patients and the geriatric community as a whole. I don't have a CNA license however. I also volunteered and interned at a women's shelter working with clients over the phone and in-house, as well as training new interns/volunteers. My other job is unrelated to healthcare and involves working in a research lab as a lab tech and although I have not done any formal research, I have helped grad students and the PI with small projects in addition to the typical duties of dish cleaning and lab maintenance.

UVA is definitely my top choice but my stats are so mediocre in comparison to the other applicants of previous years, I'm feeling discouraged. I'm not sure what else I can do to improve my chances other than study my butt off for the GRE and write mind-blowing statements, and hope my letters of recommendation are as glowing as my recommenders say they will be.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to chatting with others applying and going through the process and hopefully we will be classmates in the near future!

I think that just means as long as you complete the rest of the prereqs with a B or better.

I got in too! Yay!

Me too! Congrats everyone

Yay! I also got in! I am unbelievably excited! Congrats to everyone! I am looking forward to meeting everyone in the coming months.

Have a wonderful holiday, everyone!

Hello Everyone!

I received my acceptance last night and I am so unbelievably excited. I am really looking forward to meeting you all. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

Sincerely,

Lexi

Hi Lexi - welcome and congratulations! We are a happy bunch. Can't wait to learn more about next steps and find out who else has received good news!

Welcome Lexi! Congrats everyone! UVA was my first choice for a master's prepared nursing education so I have already accepted... anyone else??

Does anyone know what will happen next? I tried to set up my UVa email account but I have to WAIT 72 hours! :woot: I would love to know what text we will be using in May!

So exciting, I can't wait to meet everyone...

I already accepted too ocWin! Where did you find out how to set up your email?

Also, would anybody want to join a facebook group so we can talk using our real names/on a closed forum? let me know and i'd be happy to make one!

WAHOOWA Friends!!

Congrats on ALL the acceptances! So happy for each of you all!! A year ago today I found out that I was accepted, and now I'm a 1/3 through the program! So many exciting things are ahead of you! Definitely set up a Facebook group. My CNL cohort did and we still use it to communicate to the group! I know you all will be full of questions has time goes on. Please feel free to ask. Just and FYI, once your cohort is finalized, each one of you will be paired with a current 1st year CNL to be "buddies" and you will have our emails, etc to ask us all the questions you want. So look for that in the coming months. Until then, feel free to ask us anything you'd like, trust me we are all very passionate about this program and can talk your ears off ;)

Again Congratulations! We are ALL soooo excited for you!!

Yes, great idea (Facebook page)! I tried to set up my email through "first step" for new students which was either in SIS or on the uva homepage.

Thanks Kaitlin! What should we expect as the next step? Will we be hearing from the school? So unbelievably excited about moving forward!!

Congrats to everyone, and I can hardly wait to meet you guys in May!!!!

I agree we should set up a facebook group, it will be nice to get to know each other a bit before school. Also I am sure it will come in handy during our two years at UVA as well.

Hi Ocwin - thanks for offering to set up a FB group. I'm definitely interested in joining!

Hi Keepupwithkaitlyn - I remember reading your posts last year as you were waiting to hear from UVA. So do you like the program? I couldn't tell for sure. ;) Thanks for joining our postings here and offering your suggestions and encouragement! A question for you please: I live in Richmond and will be commuting (ughhh!), and I know from the info session last summer that there are other students who commute from Richmond, and I also learned that it may be possible to do clinicals in Richmond hospitals. Can you recommend the best way to get in touch with one or more of your fellow students who live in Richmond? I'd really like to email or talk with someone, within the next 20-25 days, who is/has done this so I can determine if it's doable for me. UVA is my top choice BY FAR and I am absolutely thrilled to have been accepted, but I want to make sure I know what to expect before I commit. (I have a teenager who won't be driving until next year, two dogs, and other stay-close-to-home sort of commitments). Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can offer! Sorry about the long message, but I don't know how to private email anyone (nor do I know if I can do that yet).
