Hi everyone!
I have applied to UVA's CNL program for May 2013 entrance. I had my interview this past week and it went well. Now comes the hardest part.. waiting until December 20 to find out! Is anyone else out there in the same boat? I am from out of state, anyone else? :)
Good luck all!
Yay congratulations everyone! Now you can all relax for the next few months before the insanity begins :)
After being one semester away from completing the program, I can honestly say that this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, despite the ups and downs. Being a nurse is awesome and the in-depth training of the CNL role is an added bonus to the training and education you receive. Congrats again!!!
Hello,I'm new to allnurses but I also got in and I'm so excited. I'm actually from Connecticut and was interested about the area. I have never been to Charlottesville. Is it mostly a college town? Congrats to everyone that was accepted.
Congratulations. Welcome to Allnurses! I live in the area so if you want my email I can give you the run down. It is a college town but I live on the outskirts of it. It is rather expensive to live right in the city, however it is possible. When do you plan to come visit? I love it here! Beautiful place and you are lucky to get experience while in nursing school. Where in CT do you live? I have family in Manchester, West Hartford, and Glastonbury. I was born in New Haven. I am a fan of CT:)
Yes. That would be great if you could give me your email address. It's such a small world. I actually live in Vernon ,which is a neighboring town of Manchester. I also applied to Southern CT ACE Nursing Program but I was hoping to get into UVa instead. I look forward to speaking with you.
Hello Everyone,
I too was granted acceptance into UVA's CNL 2013 Program!!!! WOooo hoooo!!!!! Im from California. So I have a lot to do in so little time haha. Would any one who is a local resident in Charlottesville be able to provide input on housing?? I am not too familiar with housing but I will be in the coming weeks. Please advise. Thank you and see you guys during orientation in May!!!
Hi! Congratulations. I am a local and can help in any way you need. I will pm you my email.
Here are a few resources to get you started:
Graduate Students, Housing & Residence Life, U.Va.
Charlottesville Apartments - Blue Ridge Apartment Council
In addition, I would look at the HOOK and CVILLE websites under classifieds. They are two free local papers that have housing listed for rent or sale.
Classifieds | The Hook - Charlottesville's weekly newspaper, news magazine
I also recommend the Graduate Guide - a portal for new graduate students at the University. It gives good guidance on matters ranging from apartments to childcare/preschools to restaurants/hotels.

One additional note for those coming from a distance: the CNL program will likely begin around May 13th. This is one week before Final Exercises at UVa (our version of graduation) where approximately 5,000 students will get their degrees. Many apartment/house leases that students hold expire at the end of May. Some CNL students have sought temporary housing (hotels, short-term rentals) for 3 weeks in May and then moved into more permanent settings on June 1 when the apartments held by the graduating grads/undergrads open up.
I definitely recommend Ash Tree Apartments/Cambridge Square Apartments. I know quite a few people who live there who love it because it's close to UVA and the Corner (where all the local college restaurants/shops are), right next to a bus stop that goes to the hospital, and has its own gym. I would generally not recommend living outside of Charlottesville, as it would require at least a 30 minute drive into down, then parking at a lot (which requires a parking pass), then taking the bus in or walking. There is NO parking at UVA, therefore while driving in is an option (as I do it myself), just remember that you will have to park at a lot first. The one nice thing is that the Green Route bus takes you directly to the hospital/nursing school though.
