UTMB Spring 2018

Published

Hello everyone! I plan on applying to UTMB for Spring 2018 entry and can't find a post on it, so I decided to make one! I am taking my TEAS end of April. I already have a degree from the University of Houston in Health Communication and minor in Nutrition. I am finishing my last two prerequisites (A&P2, Microbiology) right now at a community college. Anyone else looking to apply? Deadline is coming up next month, so I thought it would be awesome to get a group thread going! Would love to hear from others applying!

What are my next steps after acceptance?

For those accepted: are you still waiting for the updated new student guide? That has the to do list, correct?

As of right now I have only received the initial email of acceptance, the my star password set up email, and the new mystar and email portal info.

Do I wait until I get that new student guide before I start checking things off the list?

1st thing you need to do is make sure you send back the packet they send you via your acceptance in the mail, fill out the 4 sheets that come with it and either email them back or send thru mail, after that you have to get the vpn setup by telephone with the number provided in your email, you can start submitting your immunizations asap by getting the form from the student health website( link is in this thread as I have posted it), you can also setup your blackboard, and apply for financial aid if needed..background checks and urine test will be sent by email when we can register to do them, if you can answer yes to the State BON questions on background checks( information is also on thread as I have posted it) then you will have to do a D.O. Asap to get a timely response from the BON...that should be it besides making your bls/aed card will last the entire time your in school so it's reccomended to take it before orientation as a copy is needed that day..hope this all helps

Most of your questions have been answered before so please reread the thread as anymore that you might have are also in the thread most likely

Hey all! I received my acceptance email about 2 weeks ago! I have successfully downloaded and secured a connection with pulse secure... yet for some reason when i try to log into the Mystar portal it gets stuck and never goes through ? Any advice? Also how long did it take for you to receive the packet after the initial acceptance email? Thank you so much and i am looking forward to meeting you all!!!

Thank you very much.

Your answers are always incredibly helpful.

I had the same problem Rubi. It ended up that I was using the wrong browser.

Use safari or mozilla firefox. I had been using chrome when I had the same loading issue. Once I switched browsers it worked just fine.

Takes about 3 days but just look at your mailbox everyday, also sometimes if the connection doesn't connect you might want to reinstall the vpn as I had to do that, should work on any browser as I use it on chrome

Hey guys! Crazy crazy few days! Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine nursing school would start this way for us. We had our white coat ceremony cancelled and will be rescheduled. Online lectures were supposed to start since obviously there are those who can't make it in to campus but this has been delayed do professors not having elect ivory and online connectivity. Clinical placements have been delayed. Now we are set to finally start school Sept 5. Through it all our professors and the campus have been extremely helpful, informative, and compassionate. My fellow classmates have forwarded emails to each other regarding assignments and work aroundsnfornsome thinhs. It just reaffirms why I chose UTMB as my school. It's going to also put a delay in the admissions process so as it has been said all along, be patient!

Good morning all! I'm joining into this conversation a little late but I'm here now. So I'll start by beginning with the fact that I originally applied for Fall 2017 and didn't hear back about anything (denied, waitlisted, interview) for so long. Months and months. Eventually in about mid-May I got an email with the subject "Fall 2017 Waitlist Interview". The very first line of the email read "We are pleased to announce that you have been selected to interview for admission to the BSN Traditional Program for Fall 2017." Directly copied from the email. Anyways by reading that I personally got from it that I had already been on the waitlist and that I am now being taken off and being considered for a spot. Anyways I scheduled my interview for the closest date and was on my way. So I show up to the interview and right before your interviewer comes to meet you someone from the admissions office comes in to answer your questions. So we were talking and SHE TELLS ME THIS IS AN INTERVIEW TO BE ON THE WAITLIST. So I'm like "okay I'll just go home and apply for the spring as soon as possible". Keep in my mind I had not applied and was planning to until I received this email. She then says "well if you want to be considered you'll need to apply for Summer 2018. I asked why and she said "because the deadline for Spring 2018 was May 31st". GUESS WHAT! The date was June 1st :-) :-) :-) yeah just wonderful! Anyways I'm so sad at this point. I'm literally helpless. Also sidetone I also dug into the lady before about the waitlist and she said there are approximately 30 people on it per semester just FYI. So I have my interview and it goes wonderful, the interviewer and I connected so well and I felt amazing leaving. I get home and within the same week I find out I am placed on the waitlist. Of course I'm happy and I wait all summer holding onto what little hope I have that maybe, just maybe I'll get accepted for the fall. I applied for summer as soon as it opened and I'm just praying I will get accepted for the fall. I really wanted to start in the fall at this point because waiting until next summer (and not being in school) made me feel so sad and behind. Soooo now we're in the current day and I didn't make it off the waitlist. I'm now waiting for summer admissions (I don't need to interview because once you have one it's there forever unless you want to interview again) and praying so much that I'm offered a spot for the spring instead (they do this. It happened last spring and summer cycle. When they don't have enough spots/people they want they'll offer them to start a semester before if possible). While this is not a written rule, it has happened. And for the cherry on top, knowing that I was on the waitlist for the most competitive semester I would have easily made it in for the spring. Two of my friends with similar/even lower stats made it in for the spring and one of them forsure was on the waitlist for the fall with a significantly lower GPA.

SO, my overall takeaways are please, please, please apply for the next semester no matter your circumstances (especially if waitlisted). Also it's nice to know that they consider things other than just your GPA and test scores and that they really do take the time to read your personal statements. Also if you guys have questions about anything I'll try to answer to the best of my ability and sorry for the long essay I just want to be able to educate you guys on the process because a lot of the time you'll feel in the dark and it really does suck :( and what sucks even more is the I'll probably have to wait an additional 1-2 weeks to hear back on top of what Ms. Botello told me was about 2 more weeks until they started on the summer apps. Of course I can't complain and my heart deeply aches for those impacted by Harvey. I'll wait as long as I need because well, that's all I've been doing for months :)

You may want to contact admissions. I was told by someone at admissions (someone most likely higher up than the person talking to you before the interview) that waitlisted applicants are rolled over to the next semester.

Does anyone know if we have to get a PC? On the website it says recommended. I have a Mac and have already had trouble trying to access my account using the VPN. Didn't know if anyone else was in a similar situation.
