Hello everyone! I plan on applying to UTMB for Spring 2018 entry and can't find a post on it, so I decided to make one! I am taking my TEAS end of April. I already have a degree from the University of Houston in Health Communication and minor in Nutrition. I am finishing my last two prerequisites (A&P2, Microbiology) right now at a community college. Anyone else looking to apply? Deadline is coming up next month, so I thought it would be awesome to get a group thread going! Would love to hear from others applying!
Awesome, it might just be me but I wanna get everything knocked out soon..that way I don't have to stress closer to the start of the semester
I feel the same way! I am doing everything I can to get as much done as possible before the Fall semester starts!
I signed up for BLS Providers on Thursday, 8/24 from 9 to 12 at 3522 Liberty Dr., Pearland if anyone is interested in joining me.

Well i would already be done with everything if we didnt have to wait to get the background checks and drug testing so much later from now, but its good to see everyone is productive about getting stuff done. Cant wait to meet everyone who gets accepted on this thread
Hey y'all! I've read a lot of these comments, and I was wondering if anyone knows how they go about choosing who gets interviewed when? I'm applying for the Summer 2018 semester. Do y'all know if they take the top GPA/TEAS/personal statement applicants first for interviews? Or do they assign interviews based on when you submitted your application? Or is it random? If anyone knows the answer to this, please shed some light! :)

I think it might actually be based on overall competitiveness but I think the personal statement is the number 1 thing they look at, I'm not sure or anything cause I had avg teas grades of 80 and a 3.7 overal gpa with a 3.6 science gpa and I think a 3.65 pre req. i wouldn't know though since I'm not at admissions person but this school definitely looks beyond grades. Hope this helps

Yes that definitely helps! Thanks! :) Like you said, you're not on the admissions committee, so you probably don't know, but do you happen to know like if they even read all of the personal statements before deciding who to interview? That's so many to read at once I feel like haha. Or if they don't read them all at once, is that even fair that they would start accepting people without having read them all??

For one, i'm sure they read them all and that helps them figure out who to probably interview, they have people who are required to read them, not the people who do the interviews. I got accept and I was in the 1st round but that doesn't mean much since people are getting accepted regardless of the round and at the end of it, it's just a relief you got picked but you still have to wait just like everyone else to finish everything that is required. Here's my advice just write your statement and work hard on your grades and teas and let them handle the rest. Don't overthink everything

I see what you're saying! Thanks for the info! :)

I am not part of admissions either, so this is just my .02. They absolutely read the personal statements. My interviewer told me that he read mine before my interview. I have heard over and over from UTMB alumni (I have 2 in my family) and from people accepted for the fall semester that the personal statement is very important. It gives admissions a glance into who you are as a person and your motives for becoming a nurse. I will admit that it wasn't easy writing about myself, but I'm so glad that I took my time on it and that my personality shined through! I had serious parts and funny parts too!
So, onto the academic portion......It makes me uncomfortable to post my stats because I don't want someone to read them and base decisions off them. I always tell my kids not to compare themselves to others, just work hard and do your very best. Inevitably, they still compare themselves . I hope that I'm making the right decision to post this info now and that it helps to alleviate someone's fears or anxiety.
I have a high GPA (mostly an A student) and made an 85.3 on the TEAS. I was interviewed in the first round. I don't believe my TEAS score had anything to do with it. I believe it was my GPA and my personal statement combined. I have seen others with higher TEAS scores, and equivalent or lower GPAs than me in the first round too. The point I'm trying to make is that I don't believe it is any one thing, but a combination of factors that are used to determine who gets admitted. All you can do is your very best, right??!! That is the attitude I have kept since I started down the path to Nursing school. Making the decision to leave my almost twenty year engineering career behind (I'm 40), was a scary thing to do, but it has also been rewarding and exciting to be opening another chapter in my life. Don't let anything (or anyone) take you off your course! Do your very best, and the rest, well, I believe whatever is meant to be will be!
Congratulations to those that have been admitted, and best of luck to those still waiting. We are all pulling for you and hope to see all of you at Spring 2018 Orientation!!
I think I need a nap after writing this book! LOL
