UTMB Spring 2018

Published

Hello everyone! I plan on applying to UTMB for Spring 2018 entry and can't find a post on it, so I decided to make one! I am taking my TEAS end of April. I already have a degree from the University of Houston in Health Communication and minor in Nutrition. I am finishing my last two prerequisites (A&P2, Microbiology) right now at a community college. Anyone else looking to apply? Deadline is coming up next month, so I thought it would be awesome to get a group thread going! Would love to hear from others applying!

No not everyone got in from the first waves. I know of three who were interviewed who were denied and I know of about that many who were waitlisted. Two of those waitlisted have eventually gotten in. One has not heard yet and could be waiting until the week before classes start. Also, the interview times are not a hard and fast 30 minutes. The interviewer I had went over and my full interview was almost 45 minutes. We got to talking about the program and expectations and the conversation just continued naturally.

Thanks for the clarification, I imagined it would be 30min cause of the time slots but I guess they just go over the next interviewee and so on and on..keep them good vibes everyone

Hey everyone, I had my interview this morning and it wasn't bad at all! They just talk about your personal statement, study habits, your support system, and your future goals. Very great atmosphere and staff! They said it'll take about 4-5 weeks before I hear anything. Good luck!

Congrats charlea.adams on having completed your interview!

Thank you for sharing your experience as well.

Congratulations to everyone who got an interview!! Wishing you all the best of luck!! I haven't heard anything yet but I just accepted and signed up for a different nursing program! I'm going with my plan B to be on the safe side for myself. I'm staying hopeful that maybe I do get an interview request, but if not, I will have already started in a nursing program. Either way I will still achieve my goal of becoming a nurse! Keeping all of you in my prayers!

Thank you!! @denjam

Congratulations Everyone for receiving your interviews! I also applied to the UTMB Spring 2018 and still waiting for my interviews. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Hi everyone! I had my interview this morning. Definitely take the previous advice and just be yourself! The staff and faculty are nice and personable. Do be sure to review your personal statement beforehand. Best of luck to everyone. We are all in this together!!

Congrats denjam and thanks for the advice I'll let everyone know how mine went when I have mine tomorrow morning :)

Does anyone know how retakes work? I submitted my app 5/29/17 and I had a C in anatomy. I just retook it the first summer term and got a B. I sent my new grade to NCAS and UTMB, but haven't gotten word that they have received it.

Anyone know how it factors into my app? What happens if they've already decided to reject me before they see my grade?

Thanks!

I feel like everyone here has perfect grades so idk if I will get an answer for this...

It's probably best that you contact the school directly to find that out and if i'm not mistaken you submitted the day the application was due?? Did you make the cut-off time? I just remember them always saying at the open house not to wait till the last day. As for perfect grades they don't mean much, I've seen plenty of "perfect grade" students cheat the system but nursing school will definitely weed those out, just remember grades don't make an individual, always a story behind them. So keep your head up

Thanks @Onethepath91. I just hope I don't get rejected or waitlisted. I thought my personal statement was strong, but my TEAS is weak (78%). I am trying to send in everything once I retake it, including my TEAs on 8/14 a day before the summer 2018 deadline (lol). I used to get Catherine or Elizabeth when I called but now I always get Burgandy? I'm not sure if she knows what I'm talking about when I call but she told me not to worry and that they would still be reviewing apps and not rejecting anyone when I send in my stuff... but that doesn't make sense to me

rejection dont happen till the end of the reviewing i would think. as for your TEAS 78% isnt bad by any case i got an 81% on it well 82% if they round but make sure you dont get a lower grade, when they look at the TEAS i know the amount of retakes is put into consideration. Once you get an interview just explain what occurred but i also say show the positives over the negatives. Once again ill be letting this thread know how mine goes tomorrow so any questions can be given to me or the others like denjam and charlea who have already interviewed.
