Hello,
Would like to connect with everyone who has applied to UTMB-FNP program for Fall 2017.
Let me know where are you in the process.
I have applied and just finished the supplemental application . Now waiting on the decision
Thanks
I've always done acute care also, I'm ready to be away from the bedside... I don't mind working in a doctors office, it's actually what I prefer, but I wanted to have the option of urgent care and like outstanding clinics mostly which prefer FNP. I do have the same fear about hospice/nursing home jobs being most of job opportunities. however, I have seen some jobs posted for orthopedics, vein clinics, weight loss clinics, geriatric offices, aesthetics... i just wish I could predict the future haha.
Which hospital is this?
I work at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The departments are specialized in their own area, and they have hospital primary clinic settings. With the adult gerontology primary degree you can work in a private clinic or hospital primary clinic. Just like the FNP degree, with the exception of pedi or women care.
but this degree is not only specialized in geriatrics like it used to be. It now focuses on adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Oh ok, I was asking another friend who works there if there have AGPCNP jobs... my history is 4 years in adult oncology however I am now in The NICU and I am worried when I graduate with the adult/geriatric NP, it will be difficult for me to find employment due to working in the nicu with a complete opposite population

oh I see, yes you may have a little trouble because of that but maybe if you apply for a fellowship residency program after you graduate, then that may be the way to be able to get in, since you ve had prior oncology experience. You re not interested in neonatal nurse practioner? I have a friend who is doing that program at UTMB and she loves it! But I completely understand your concerns and I can see how the FNP track could be a better route for you. I think you have time to research and decide. Its a tough decision. Keep us posted!

My plan is to work at my hospital's outpatient clinic. I dont want to work at a private setting.
