UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

Yup, people have been accepted with courses in progress and still left to complete. Good luck!

Thanks punkydoodles. I have my TEAS test on the 26th and I am hoping it is close to the practice book I ordered from the ATI website. Can you tell me if the test was done on computer or pencil and paper? I haven't had AP2 or Micro and it has been awhile since Chemistry so I am nervous!

I don't think it would be fair to discuss exact questions, but I will say that it didn't seem much different from any job interview I've had.

Some girls had on dresses (too short, imo) and heels. I wore dress slacks, blouse, scarf and heels. just look professional.

thats good, I was thinking a business skirt-- and its not short.. a little past the knees.

Did they throw you any curve ball questions, and was the interview awkward or kinda calm and relax?

I didn't have any major curveballs, personally. All the questions made sense---they were things that I would want to know if I was interviewing students. Also, there are some great threads on Allnurses about interviews! Here's a good one with a lot of potential questions: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/interview-questions-88629.html Obviously these won't all be asked, but I think it's a good rundown of common/expected interview questions, to get you thinking.

Your skirt sounds good :) I wore slacks, a blouse and a blazer.

Also, @ dj22: You just need to have 40 out of the 60 prereq hours done, in order to apply. :) But as others have said, I would do as much as you can, especially of the sciences...so that you can show them good grades in those classes as part of your app. http://son.utmb.edu/programsofstudy/bsn/entrancerequirements.cfm

As for the TEAS, I found the practice questions really helpful! My test was on a computer, and I'd done the online practice tests, which were in the exact same format/layout as the real thing. So that was nice. It seems like Science is the hardest section for most people, try to brush up on Chem and Micro and do some AP2 overview. Good luck!

it was on the computer, you get one sheet of scratch paper, its not too bad but i took it fresh out of high school. I couldn't tell you if its close to the book because I didn't study for it. I had micro, patho, and humanities left this past spring. When you send in your app blow up their phone lines, call almost every day because my transcript ended up not getting in and I had to send documentation saying it was sent and they had to grant an extension for my application. I sent three through the mail and one over fax and it ended up getting in eventually. I hand delivered my current transcript yesterday, interviewed two weeks ago, and still haven't heard anything.

Thanks for the advice. I havent even had Micro or AP2 yet so I might have some problems on that one!

Thanks! My application says they still need all of my transcripts, but I emailed to see if they had received any of them and the girl emailed me back and said not to worry about the official ones because they have all of my unofficial ones I attached to my application. She said I only had to worry about official ones if I got into nursing school there. I don't know, that didn't sound right to me.

What they mean by that is that they have a record of your grades, the only way you can send an official is through the mail and it takes forever for them to process them(2 to 3 weeks). So fax or personally take them if you want them to get in at a decent rate because that is what took so long for me because I mailed them the first time, and now I don't even know if I'm going to get in even though my GPA is great with three honors classes and a really good interview. Good luck to you, if worse comes to worse we can start a Spring 2012 thread together haha!!!

Got my rejection letter :(

Got my rejection letter :(

Sorry to hear that, dont give up!

I don't know if I was really rejected or if it was because they "lost my application"... kind of makes me mad! They probably could not find it so just sent me a rejection letter... ugh! I am still waiting on two schools so hopefully I will make it into one of those! Good luck everyone else :)

I'm sorry to hear that, but when a door closes, another door opens. Don't give up, better things will come!!!
