UTMB BACC2 Spring 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those applying for UTMB's 2012 accelerated nursing program. The application is open April 1-July 15. I was told invites for interviews start after the application is closed and interviews start end July-August. Does anyone have any additional information? Has anyone applied before? Know of any interview questions? Please share everything you know!!!!!!!

Good luck to everyone

Thank you so much for the insight! It is greatly appreciated

Looking back at SP 2010 board, interviews and early admissions offers went out around Sep 8.

Wow thank you to all who are currently going through the BACC-2 program!!! The advice really is amazing!!! Thank you!! I wish I could've gotten that before going through my Dietetics program. It really does make a difference.

Question to the Bacc-2 2011 participants:

Since it is so intense and you are cramming alot of information into only a year, do you guys feel you are learning and retaining it as in do you feel prepared for your rotations?

Thanks!

Also, to applicants, I got an email from 'Carmichael' stating that they are now processing my application? Not sure what that exactly means, since on utmb it shows my app as complete.

So I decided to email the Assistant Dean of Admissions and was told "The first week of September if your application has been reviewed. We will schedule interviews throughout Septemember." It seems like she knows what she is talking about so we wont here anything until then.

thank you for the information!

Have any Bacc2 applicants gotten interview invitations yet? I noticed that several people on the traditional BSN program thread have gotten invites, but I haven't seen anything here. I'm a Bacc2 applicant, but still waiting...

First round invitations for the Bacc2 program still haven't been sent.

Hi CLaker!

Thanks for the advice from you and JThig!! Very helpful... I'm actually applying to the Traditional BSN program. I completed and submitted my application right before the June deadline and have already recieved a interview invitation (9/9/11). My question is it seemed as if most people that were interveiwed were accepted--or at least that's what it looked like on the previous year's thread. Do you know how many are interviewed versus how many actually get acceptance letters?

I talked to someone in the office who said there was 300 applicants with 120 slots. She said the first commitee looked over 75-100 applications, of which 40 got calls for interviews. I've also heard that they will interview every Friday in September, which would be about 200 interviews... Just trying to figure out how many they choose versus not.

Any experience?

Thanks and congrats on getting into the program!!

Hi everyone! I am also in the current Bacc2 program and just wanted to send a quick note of encouragement to all of those applying for the 2012 round! It's a great program-I am thoroughly enjoying it. I know a few of you have posted questions about how many people applied this past year. I have heard wild numbers from all across the spectrum, but I know for sure that not everyone who was interviewed were accepted into the program. I can think of one or two people I interviewed with who were not invited to join the program. There were hundreds of applicants, but I'm not sure of the number in total-sorry I can't be more specific! But honestly, if you have a strong history, academically and otherwise, and give a great interview, then you should have no problems getting in. I am happy to try and answer any questions you guys have. I know it was such a huge help for me to hear from other Bacc2 students when I was trying to get in, so I am more than happy to pass along any help that I can.

1CourtneyLaFon had a good point and I haven't seen a response for her question, "Since it is so intense and you are cramming alot of information into only a year, do you guys feel you are learning and retaining it as in do you feel prepared for your rotations?"

Thanks to all the prior/current Bacc2 help

Still no interview request...

Hmmm...do I feel prepared for my rotations? I really don't think that there is any amount of schooling that could possibly make one feel completely prepared to take care of an actual patient right off the bat. Learning information and actually putting that learning into practice during clinicals are completely different things. Until you actually get in there and start doing your clinicals, you will never feel prepared, but you will be very excited! The "on the job" learning of clinicals is so unbelievably valuable and is a completely different learning experience than learning from the books and powerpoints. Do I feel that I am retaining the information I learned two semesters ago? In a way. The classes all build off of one another, so (for example) the drugs you learn in Pharmacology (first semester) will be ones you will use and see over and over again throughout the course. But do I remember everything I learned in Adult I and some of the other intro courses? Nope. It is a very, very fast-paced program and there is no way to retain all of the information. But you remember the stuff you need to because those concepts are reinforced over and over again throughout many different courses. Hope that helps!
