UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011

Published

Just wanted to start a thread to see how many others have applied to the BACC2 program and hopefully we can keep track when interviews start, letters get sent, etc.

So, have you sent in your application, and when do you think you will first hear something? I know last year, interviews didn't start until October, but I have a feeling that they were still trying to play catch-up from Ike. Considering that some of the Fall 2010 applicants were contacted on March 1st for interviews when the application period ended Feb. 15th, I'm hoping that maybe August could be a possiblity for us to hear from UTMB. Any one else have thoughts about this?

Here's to all the BACC2 2011 applicants! Good luck! :D

The background check was $48.71 back in July, so I would assume it would still be about the same.

My econnect is still the same. Were you guys able to accept your invitation yet?

Hi all! This may be a dumb question....the letter says that we have to accept or decline by October 28. I also applied to UT-Houston and am still waiting for a response. Am I allowed to accept now, but later choose to give up my spot? How does that work?

Hmmm...Legally, I don't think that there's anything they can hold you to at this stage, but I'm not a lawyer. It probably doesn't thrill UTMB when people do that, but I don't know exactly how much of an imposition it is for them. I'm pretty sure that the reason why they say the 28th is so that if you don't accept, they can interview someone else for that spot.

Now does that mean if you tell them you changed your mind after the last interview date (beginning of Nov.) that they'll just leave that spot empty? I seriously doubt it. They are also a business, so they would like to get that extra $15k from someone! :D I know I've read in other threads that people have been called up fairly close to the start of the semester and are asked if they want to attend.

So can you do it? Probably.

Should you do it? I personally wouldn't, but I'm not you and I'm not in your situation. What's a big deal to some, isn't to others.

Just think about what's right for you and go for it! :)

Beebers,

When will UT-Houston begin making decisions? Since their program (Bacc2) doesn't begin until the summer I would assume that UTMB's program will already have begun when they make decisions. I just submitted my application to UT-Houston earlier today with the understanding that the deadline is Dec. I had my interview with UTMB on Sept. 24th, but did not receive an acceptance e-mail as some already have, so as a backup plan I submitted my app to Houston. Of course, my anxiety led me to call the admissions office at UTMB and I was told that not all of the spots have been filled, but they decided to interview all applicants before filling the class up. Hopefully, I wasn't fed a line of bull just to keep my hopes up!

Yes CLaker, I was able to accept. Hopefully by the end of the day you will have the option to accept.

CLaker -

You might want to go check E-connect now. My status wasn't changed earlier today, but I just looked & now I can accept the invitation! :)

Hey JThig,

I'm in the same situation you are. I interviewed on the 24th and still pending. I think its better to be pending than to be already waitlisted. I too have applied to UT Houston but I don't think they start interviews until January. I'm just patiently waiting!!! So I guess we can wait together!! Good luck and let me know if you hear anything!

Thanks lexi loo! I was just able to accept. I'm so excited to meet all of you in January!

JThig and hrphan-

Keep your hopes up! There will be many that don't accept their invitations, so hopefully you'll hear something from UTMB after Oct. 28th.

Hey guys

I have looked through my acceptance packet and I found a form that states we are required to have health insurance while we are students at UTMB.

Does anyone know if UTMB offers health insurance for us? It didnt say anywhere in the packet.

I have insurance through my job until December, because Im quitting for nursing school. Anyone have any info about this? Thanks

Vick

Vick English-

Yes, UTMB has a United HealthCare plan. Go to http://www.utmb.edu/studentwellness/insurance/index.html more details.

Thanks Claker!

I actually went to a site and got some cheap Health Insurance for students.

Hi Vick,

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Where did you find insurance? I've been looking at ehealthinsurance.com.

I know that they're still planning the schedule for the upcoming BACC2 program, but do any of you know how often we'll be on campus? I know that every Tuesday is a definite because I believe that's an exam day...any of you have any additional details regarding a weekly schedule?? I'm trying to figure out whether or not commuting is feasible...
