UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011

Published

Just wanted to start a thread to see how many others have applied to the BACC2 program and hopefully we can keep track when interviews start, letters get sent, etc.

So, have you sent in your application, and when do you think you will first hear something? I know last year, interviews didn't start until October, but I have a feeling that they were still trying to play catch-up from Ike. Considering that some of the Fall 2010 applicants were contacted on March 1st for interviews when the application period ended Feb. 15th, I'm hoping that maybe August could be a possiblity for us to hear from UTMB. Any one else have thoughts about this?

Here's to all the BACC2 2011 applicants! Good luck! :D

I'm moving to galveston because I live in Dallas. I plan on getting an apartment somewhere on the island.

Ok glad I'm not the only one! Everyone I talked to at the interview was planning on just living in Houston or the surrounding areas. If anyone is planning on moving to Galveston and is looking for a roommate, please let me know!

Make sure y'all live on the east end. I lived there for 2 years and the west end floods easily especially during hurricane season!

I live in Clear Lake. Which is about 30 minutes away. Im gonna have to make the commute but It wont be too bad I have a sedan!

Congrats to everyone that got accepted!

I live in Galveston right now because I was suppose to start school in August but got early acceptance into the BACC2 program and my friend and I already signed our lease at that time. I live on the west side of the island, I think the east side seems a little sketchy and not as safe. It's only about a 15 min drive to UTMB from the west side.

Camo...I'm also from the Dallas area.

Can't wait to meet everyone!

it depends on which area you live in. I lived at Port Aux Prince. It was a 2bd/2ba with free water and wifi includes washer and dryer for about $1000/mo. I was on the second floor and survived the hurricane because of the area I was in and being on the second floor was a plus. The place was less than 5 mins from the school. But I do agree, there are some shady areas in the East side, especially those apts closest to the seawall and 4th avenue.

Hi Vick English, do you stay in apartments in Clearlake? If so do you know of any apartments that are nice and affordable as well as in a good area you would recommend?

Thanks

I live at the Villas in Edgewater. It is on Nasa Parkway. I love it here!

Seven Palms on Texas Avenue is pretty nice and decently priced.

Also if you go as far down as League City there are some really nice apartments on 646. Close to Tuscan Lakes.

The Gardens at Challenger Park on 528 Is also nice with reasonable prices.

All of these apartments are very close to I-45

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Hey if you go to The Villas I will split the $500 reward with you too!

Good luck!

Keep me posted on when you all get your letters in the mail. I don't live near my mailbox and do not check it daily. Thanks!

@ Greengold.....No problem...will do...

I'm not in the Bacc2 program, but I wanted to mention something about apartments. If you don't want to live on the island and are looking at the Clear Lake area, there is always Friendswood. There are some good apartments west of I45 starting at FM 2351 and going south. I wouldn't recommend living north of 2351 (Dixie Farm Rd etc..). Friendswood is a nice area, so you may want to check it out.

Oh by the way, for all of you that got accepted into the Bacc2, has anything changed for you on Econnect yet?
