UTMB Accelerated BSN Summer 2013

U.S.A. Texas

The application opened for this program just opened the other day, and I wanted to see if I could reach out to anyone else applying!

I've submitted my application, and took the TEAS V Test this morning!

I graduated Texas A&M with a Biology Degree this year and during completion of this degree I realized Nursing is where I want to be! Hope to hear from others!

Hey there, for all of you that have had your interviews so far, do you mind me asking what were some of the tough questions they asked? I have mine next week and i'm very nervous because i'm not the best when it comes to interviews. I will definitely pass on the info on my interview once its done as well.

ariraspa, I just had my interview this week. The lady interviewing me was very nice. She asked some basic questions that were listed in either this post or last years post. Why UTMb? Why nursing? Your previous degree, previous GPA? and she would write down the answers. At the end of the interview, she had a question on a paper and asked you to write down the answer. It was nursing or science related, just a basic 'what you would do in this situation' kinda question. Don't worry too much about it and Good Luck!

Hi all! I'm new here. I interviewed for the UTMB BACC2 program this week too. It was much more relaxed that I thought it would be. I had envisioned sitting at a table in front of a panel of several people, so I was very relieved when it was only ******* and me in her office. She was very nice, and I was comfortable talking to her. The questions were very general. Just relax and answer them honestly. She wasn't looking for "right" or "wrong." I think she just want to meet us face-to-face, and it really seemed like a formality that she has to ask everyone the same questions. She said orientation is in April, and classes start the first week of May. She also said I should hear something regarding their decision in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed! Good luck to all of you!

Has anyone asked how many applicants applied for the summer term? I know they usually accept around 70, but don't know how many we are going against lol.

I was told it was around 300 applicants for the summer BACC2 program.

Oh goodness! Ok. Thanks so much.

Does anyone know if being invited for an interview is a good sign that you will be offered a spot in the program? Are there some that interview but are not chosen?

Yes. There are some that interview and are not chosen. Also there are some that are chosen without having to interview.

Anyone know the earliest we would find out an admissions decision? I believe the latest they said was March 1st? I already had my interview, if you haven't done yours yet, do not worry. The staff is very professional but also personable, they honestly want to talk to you. Just tell them about yourself and you will do fine. One step closer everyone, we can do it! :)

I'm not sure how early. Hopefully before March 1st. I have my interview on Thursday. I've heard they have interviewed in batches and accepted people throughout the process, but that was when they interviewed for the Traditional track as well. They might wait and accept everyone at once since they are only accepting around 70. Fingers crossed we hear sooner!

Hi again, I also had an interview last week. The same list of 20 questions! There were lots of people in the waiting area! ***** stated she had been doing interviews all day everyday for the past 2 weeks, and that she is only one of the professors that interview. That makes me think there are a whole lot of applicants :( I did not ask when we will hear back. I wish I would have since some have said 2 weeks, and others have said by March 1st.

Since orientation is in April, that doesn't give us much time to get all of our last requirements checked off. I'm thinking of getting the CPR course out of the way now since that documentation is due at orientation. Has anyone done that already in the Houston area? I was just going to look into AHA. Also, does anyone know all of the required immunizations? I read online that the Hep trio vaccine is required. I wonder how long that vaccine is good for since I had it so long ago! I also assume the Meningitis vaccine is required, but not sure of anything else.

One thing I asked during the interview (in case others are wondering) is how often we will be required to attend class on campus (since I would be driving in from Houston). ****** stated that we will need to attend weekly seminars and labs on campus. We will also need to go to campus to take all exams. However, many clinicals can be done where you choose. So, we would need to be on campus between 1-3 times per week.

Hi Sloweth,

****** gave me her card and told me to call her if I haven't heard anything in a few weeks. She seems to be very helpful and accessible. Like you, I will probably go ahead and take CPR soon. The Hep B trio should still be good if you completed the series. I couldn't find one of my documents showing I'd had the third one, so I had the titer done, which confirmed my immunity. Actually, I had the titers done for all of the vaccines because I wanted proof of my childhood vaccines. One of the tests showed that I lacked immunity to measles (the number was lower than what is typical for immunity), so I redid the MMR series just to be safe. I'm not sure if there is a list on the SON website. It should be the standard immunizations that are required for a child to enter school and any necessary boosters.

Just found a forum on Facebook as linked from the UTMB SON homepage (Pre-Admission Questions): Everyone should be notified by March 1st for the Accelerated program summer 2013 admissions.

See facebook.com/utmbson

It looks like a good place to post questions and get answers from SON staff. From the statement above, I assume everyone will know their status by March 1.
