Utica University - ABSN Programs

Published

Hi everyone, I was recently accepted into the Utica ABSN program in Latham NY and was hoping to get any advice or tips. I've come across poor reviews in terms of faculty support and high attrition rate but was wondering if there were any specifics. More so, is the program doable? How much time is needed to be invested on a weekly basis to cover lecture material? Is the lecture material/study material helpful on exams? How is the clinical lab experience? Do you feel as though you are on track to becoming a competent nurse? Really open to any and all advice before investing my time and money into this endeavor.

Specializes in RETIRED Cath Lab/Cardiology/Radiology.

Moved to Schools/College Programs Support area.  Wishing you success in your program!

Hi Nicole, did you end up accepting the program? I am part of the cohort for this fall despite all of the negative reviews. Looking for fellow future classmates to possibly share housing and form study groups. I know the program is tough and might lack support but I'm hopeful we can get through it together.

Hi, I have not accepted yet but intend to next week. I would be very interested in study groups and things like that to build our own community/support system.

I'm on the same boat. Let's touch base in a week or two after our final decisions and we can start a groupchat or something

That sounds good! Are you considering other programs as well? Also, do you have other reservations or is it mainly the lack of support that people are saying? Lastly, if you don't mind me asking, what degree do you already have?

I am waitlisted for a Physician Assistant Program but it's likely a no go. So this is my back up plan to do nursing and eventually NP or CRNA later. I'm a radiology technologist (CNMT) with a Bachelor in Biology. What about you?

My concerns for this program are based off of the negative reviews I have found online but the few non-negative ones have helped me made a decision. They mentioned how most students aren't putting in enough hours for this program, it's a bachelor degree squeezed in 16months, view it as a full time job. If you have other priorities like a job to up hold, children, etc, you might find it very difficult to go through. I do worry about the lack of school support, but I'm committed to change my career so I will go to all ends to find support from the school if needed cause 60k is not little as well as relocating and quitting my current well paying job.

I have a bachelor's in public health. I completely agree. What non-negative reviews were you able to find? I was trying to find some but came across none. When do you need to make your decision by? I have until May 14th.

Somewhere in the threads about this program on this site. They might be about main campus ones. You gotta see all of the comments since most of them are negative... they've mentioned how most students aren't used to the large load of school works and fast paced environment, just need to put in your best studying techniques, a lot of studying hours, and don't slack off.  I believe I have until May 19th or 20th

Also looking for info!
