Utica College Online ABSN

Updated:   Published

So, I looked through the archives and I couldn't find any recent reviews of Utica College's Online ABSN program. The courses are online and the clinicals are held near campus. Does anyone on here have any feedback for this program? I am not looking for advice on online vs. brick and mortar--that is research I have done a ton of: on here, elsewhere, via personal experience, etc, etc... Anyone go through this program? ♥️

Hello everyone, I am currently in the UTICA ABSN program in Syracuse and I'm in my third semester. I was very anxious about going into this program because of all the bad reviews. But since I have been here, it is doable. The program requires you to do a lot of busy work and manage time to study which is a lot. Some exams seem unfair but overall a student can pass the class with a B on average. One major advice is to be ready to study ALOT for the exams and attend tutoring and exam reviews.

I can compare my program with a few of my friends in other programs such as PACE and I can say that the program is fairer compared to the others.

Anyways Goodluck guys!

Hey there - Thanks for sharing this info. I wish there was more activity from those out of Syracuse on this board. Anyway, can you elaborate on what you mean by "the program is fairer compared to the others"? How are clinicals going given COVID? The admission rep I am working with said things will be back to normal when I start at the end of August.

Hey no problem,

Well my friend from PACE in NY explains how her exams are and the work they do, it's much worse for them than for us. For clinical we have virtual simulations, where we are given a patient and we treat them, it seems like a game but we are graded on it. It's just tedious. I think by August or by October they are saying, it just depends on what is allowed according to the state. But they did change a lot of stuff like books for the second and new semester students. They usually use our input and make changes for the better in the program. I've heard the program has gotten better this year compared to the years before from senior students. Overall, as long as you study weekly and read the textbook and utilize the resources, there shouldn't be a problem passing the classes.

For example I failed two pharmacology exams, and then I talked to the professor she guided me on how to study and I ended up with a B+ because I did well on the other three exams.

But OB and PED is a hard class because its only 6 weeks long. They also do give points back on questions that most of the students didn't do well on.

I hope this helps

Gotcha - thanks. Puts me a bit at ease. I have been quite scared, for lack of a better word, due to things I have heard about the program. I'm just going to work hard, study, and go with it. *Fingers crossed*

If you don't mind me asking, how many days a week are you "on campus"? I will be commuting from Rochester which is another thing I am dreading LOL - hoping for a relatively decent upcoming Winter!

Since I lived in Longisland, I had to relocate to Liverpool which is 10 minutes away. But yeah you have to spend about 8-10 hours a day studying like a full time or overtime job to do well in the program. Since it's mostly online, I believe a lot of people have trouble keeping up with the work because of that but other than that it is okay.

I created a FB page for anyone attending Utica in st. Pete for 2020 here’s the link

I did not see any started already!

Great idea - I did not find on for the Syracuse location so I created one:

Awesome! Looking forward to meeting my fellow students ?

I have officially decided on Utica St. Pete! I am looking into housing options... I will be relocating from out of state and they sent me a list of some apartments including student housing in Tampa near USF (which is cheap and furnished which is a plus) but I am concerned that it is 30 minutes from campus. I would love any insight into housing

Thanks! I hope so ? I will be relocating from NJ. What about you?

What have you done as far as finding roommate?? Or do you plan on finding a place alone? My advisor gave me some places to look at but this housing is a little overwhelming at this point.

@maryam1993 have you heard anything about job placements after? I’ve been told from people looking at other programs besides nursing such as radiology tech that hospitals won’t hire them because of the program they attended, any news on job outlook for utica absn grads?? Thanks.
