I applied for the Fall 2008 Accelerated BSN program and am very excited to have an interview on April 10 - the letter just came in the mail today! Anyway, I wasn't able to find any recent threads for applicants applying for this year so wanted to see if there were any applicants out there.
I'm interested to hear from any current or former students in the program. Is this a good program? What are some of the pros and cons?
I currently live in Houston and prefer to stay if I am accepted to any of the 3 nursing schools here, but I would certainly not hesitate to relocate to SA for nursing school.
I was surprised at the speed, too. I would like to ask you guys something. I have been trying to figure out how they picked our testing and interview dates. Maybe it's just random but here are my stats. I have a BS in Biology and my GPA for the pre-recs is 3.4. I thought maybe they were grouping us by gpa or backgrounds, but I know that some people with bachelors have already gone and I know some LVNs and LPNs have gone on the same days as form 4.0 people.... what do you guys think?
The tests are all computerized so the grades are instant. There will be time for them to decide.
S, and I know a couple of people who had the same letter last name(like a c I think) the one with the higher gpa was first , lower GPA was today, mine is higher than both of theirs and I am last, I am sure that it is random. Do you know if they pick a total number all together, 100 or 120 or is it each group like accelerated, generic, f/t, p/t ...I hope I am making sense, I have been studying all day, I am fried.
I guess it's random. That's a good GPA. Maybe we can get together after the test to discuss our results. I'll let you know what I will be wearing once I decide what I will wear.
I watched this presentation online for the UTHSCSA SON and the lady who was giving the talk said that they interview around 160 people for 100 spots. You have to figure that some are not going to show, some won't pass the background, some will fail the test and some will fail the interview. I heard that showing up in jeans or flip-flops will fail the interview and I know some are bound to do that so I bet your chance of getting in is better than 70-75% if you get an interview. Even though I have a BS, I will still be on the generic track but for each class they strive to get 20% in the accelerated program and you have to have a bachelors to be part of that. HOWEVER, having a BS doesn't grant you acceptance I think it just gives you a few more points to start with. I am a nervous wreck.. I both dread and can't wait for Friday!!!!!! I feel lucky to have gotten to study more, but at the same time the wait is giving me gray hair!
Yeah I feel the same way, on one hand I am in a panic I feel like I am running out of time to learn as much as I can for the test, on the other hand, can't it just be May already and all this can be over. But it will be over before you know it. SOO 20% of the 100 will be accelerated? OK I thought maybe it was a separate thing... darn.
Yeah what to wear is one of the many things on my list as well, let me know.
where di dyou find that video I would like to see it!

I think the average is around 79 or so. Maybe a little bit lower. Definately in the high 70's. That's the average for those who take it there. The national average is much lower. Lily, Thanks for the information and the encouraging attitude. I hope you make it. I will let you know and you do the same, ok?
The letters are rumored to be sent out by the third week of April. Also, I heard that you don't get a rejection letter right away, so if you haven't heard by May, call them and find out what's going on.
