UTHSCSA Traditional BSN Application Fall 15

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey guys!

So the application to start in the Fall of 2015 is due on February 1st. Really, that is right around the corner if you think about it!

Let this thread be dedicated to all hopefuls!

I still have to take the Teas V, but I did buy the study guide with 2 tests so hopefully that helps. My cumulative GPA will be 3.2ish and my pre-req GPA will be close to 4.0. I'm extremely anxious about getting in that is for sure!

Hi guys! I've been waiting for someone to post a thread for this cycle :D

words cannot describe how excited and anxious I am to apply in February for Fall 15. I've been obsessing over getting in for about a year now.

Heres where I stand:

I have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 Math and science GPA.

I already took my TEAS in the summer, but I got a 69.3, so I will be retaking it in the next 2 weeks. That darn math section was rigorous for me but I've been bulking up on it since the beginning of the month

Hey future nurses,

I just wanted to share some delays that many are currently facing. While it will not affect the lecture and lab classes (our schedules are pre-selected), it is going to prevent them from having first pick of their clinical location and day. Many students still have account holds dealing with background check clearance, transcripts, and immunizations (especially Heb B titer). To avoid these delays, here are some tips:

1) As soon as you received acceptance notification, schedule your background check asap!! Do not wait. We are all hearing back at different times and different ways. If necessary, contact the TBON to check on your status after two weeks.

2) Get your immunizations completed early! After acceptance, schedule to get your 2nd TB test and Hep B titer asap. Some have come back as immune requiring them to get Hep A/B series. This takes over a month to complete because a second titer is also required. Some are having to wait until Nov or Dec to get titer results. If your results come back negative, get you A/B series immediately. Get copies of all lab reports for any titers done. Apparently, the Student Health Clinic requires this (depending on who is working at the front desk). You may need to follow-up with them to remove your hold. I went in person.

3) Order all of your transcripts early and have delivered to you so you can drop them all off at once or order early. You will get an e-mail from Brandy verifying they have all been received. If your hold is not removed within a week or two, contact the Registrars office directly. I completed a pre-req over the summer, but did not update NursingCas since it was after the application cycle (I was told that I didn't have to). I found out that some of the reps actually use NursingCas to verify our classes taken. This was a problem for me because they were showing that I hadn't completed my last pre-req. I had to request for my rep to look at my transcript sent to show that I had completed it. My hold was removed immediately (Note: It is not required to update NursingCas after the app cycle, but it may not hurt).

One more thing,

Although there was a long waitlist for parking, many of us have already been able to purchase our permits. The popular lots seem to be unreserved Lots 3 and 4, which are in walking distance of the Nursing School. You can waitlist for a reserved spot, which is more expensive. We have to pay the annual fee up front by cash or credit card. There are no monthly payment options for students at this point. The cycle runs from Sept - August and is prorated if purchased after Sept.

Herrington, I'm sorry. I never said thank you for congratulating me. Thank you :)

So I just saw the recent average stats for the class that started this fall. Feeling pretty good! It said the average cumulative was 3.4 the average math and sci was 3.4 the average teas was an 80 and the average age was 24. I'll be 24 when I apply, I'll have a cumulative 3.4 and a close to 4.0 math sci. I still need to take teas which I'm very anxious about. But so far it's looking good!

Just checking back in! I retook my TEAS test this afternoon and I am awaiting my scores :angrybird5:

How do you think you faired?

I did well!

I went from a 69.3% to a 77.3%

Well, I've got all but 2 of my transcripts submitted to NursingCAS. I still need this semesters classes (Microbiology at SAC, and Intro Chem II at NVC), but I'm going to get those sent out maybe a week after the semester is over.

Are you guys taking anything in the Spring? I just registered for 3 other classes I thought might be of help.

-First Aid (you can get the BLS after finishing this course)

-Medical Terminology (I've heard from current UTHSCSA nursing students that this is a really good course to take prior to starting)

-Elementary Spanish with a focus in medical terminology (I've lived here for over 10 years, and I speak barely any Spanish :p )

I'm going to Corpus Christi for Thanksgiving with family, and I'm taking my TEAS book with me to start studying, then take the exam in late December/early January. I'm also currently getting my immunizations in order so I won't have to mess with them later, assuming I get in the first time.

Herrington,

Yea I still have 2 classes to be inputed into Nursingcas before sending out my last transcript for the alamo colleges and that is Micro and Nutrition. n

As for taking classes in the spring, no I don't plan on it! I'm just going to work full time to save up for the all of the fees that are going to start coming in for the application process and (if we get accepted) the first installment for the semester along with the the hefty fee for the mandatory laptop :/ lol

Good luck on your studies for the TEAS! let me know if you have any questions about it

Well.... I just registered to take the Teas V. I think I'll go throw up now. SO much is riding on this darn test. :(

Bumping....

I am to take my Teas V on the 19th. Studying my tail off!

I also am working on my Nursing CAS, and to save anyone else time. They want the 3.0 version uploaded. Starting the process of sending transcripts from 5 different colleges in as well! I will be happy to never have to send transcripts again...
