UTHSCSA Traditional BSN Application Fall 15

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey guys!

So the application to start in the Fall of 2015 is due on February 1st. Really, that is right around the corner if you think about it!

Let this thread be dedicated to all hopefuls!

I still have to take the Teas V, but I did buy the study guide with 2 tests so hopefully that helps. My cumulative GPA will be 3.2ish and my pre-req GPA will be close to 4.0. I'm extremely anxious about getting in that is for sure!

Let me know if either of you have any more questions. I am more than happy to help in any way that I can.

Wow, 1 week after the semester ends? Heh, that's cutting it a bit close, it seems.

I actually volunteer at University Hospital during the week, and just had my annual health screen (had to get a TB done), but I'm not sure about my other immunizations...I'll have to go ask medical records at the hospital and also head to Randolph AFB or SAMMC to see what else I have. I think it's just the Hepatitis I need, but we'll see.

Thanks for the info!

Herrington,

I checked my due dates e-mail and this is how it works:

You will have two due dates for transcripts. The first will be for all official transcripts to be sent/mailed/dropped off to UTHSCSA. Our deadline is Dec. 1 for this. The second date will state something like, "Successful completion of the following required courses prior to Friday, December 19, 2014: Ethics" (real example from my letter). Since I completed my class over the Summer, I ordered my transcript from my college already. I am taking more classes this semester (none required for UTHSCSA), but will have a final transcript sent when I am finished.

UTHSCSA does not require Medical Terminology. However, they do want your Spanish. So, you may want to either have your transcript sent via PDF or put a rush order in after receiving your acceptance letter. Most colleges allow you to pre-order and select the option of having it sent after final grades are entered. If you have any issues, you can always contact Brandy Finck and she will instruct you on what to do.

Ah, I see, but UTHSCSA doesn't require Spanish as a pre-req (at least, I don't see it on their site here), so wouldn't I have a little more time to get the transcripts sent in? I'll have all 60 of my pre-req hours done at the end of this Fall semester...I'm just taking the Medical Terminology and Spanish as sort of supplemental (but not required).

I think my GPA will be close to 3.4 as well, or more. I have a 4.0 for all of my science courses. I will be taking Texas Gov't, Ethics, and an arts as my straggling classes. ;) I am also enrolled in a hybrid lactation consultant course which is a full time job as it is as far as school goes. I only have the Teas study manual and 2 practice tests. How hard was the Teas test? Is there a lot of Chem 2 stuff on there or just general chem fundamentals?

Herrington,

Yes, you are absolutely right. I am sorry. Spanish is my requirement to graduate with my Associate's this December. I am trying to prepare for both graduation and nursing school. I'm sorry for the confusion. So, yes, you will be fine. The nursing students actually suggested taking those classes if you have extra time. Also, Public Health.

Ratlady, I believe the hybrid lactation consultant course is good. On the UTHSCSA scholarship app, there is a question pertaining to your interest in Women's Health. There weren't very many specified areas of interest highlighted like this one, which makes me believe there is more money for those that have experience and/or interest in this area.

I took the HESI first (for UIW) then the TEAS. The HESI was pretty straight forward and sort of easy compared to the TEAS. The TEAS had more analytical questions. In my opinion, it was more challenging. However, I have recently heard of students getting 94%, 98%, and 95%. Many people have taken the online practice tests offered through ATI. I took one, but it has been suggested to take one before studying to gauge your strengths and weaknesses. Then, study your TEAS book and take the second online practice test last. If you are having any difficulty in any area, I suggest using the HESI practice book to practice the basics. I passed this book on to another young lady who loves it for the math portion. On the test, you will not be able to use a calculator. You will have to do all the math by hand and are given one sheet of paper with a pencil. Many say they were down to the last few minutes when completing this section. The math wasn't difficult for me, just time consuming. Each section is timed (like the online practice test). Additional time is not rolled over to the next section. It's hard for me to say what's hard and easy since my weaknesses may be your strengths. I believe that if you pace yourself, study well, and utilize your resources - you will do fine.

I believe that there were some Chemistry II applications, but I also remember Earth Science being covered. Study your practice book and take the practice tests (in the book and online). I guess the best explanation of the TEAS' level of difficulty would be that it is more challenging than the practice tests in the book, but less challenging than the online practice exams.

Gotcha, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I think I'm 2 classes away from being able to get an Associate of Biology in Pre-Nursing, but I'd need to take their version of statistics, (which isn't going to happen, haha) and Chemistry I lab, but UTHSCSA doesn't need the labs for Chemistry, so I'm not messing with them.

Where did you do your Texas Government requirement? I'm looking for something quick, cheap, and easy. ;) OH, and online.

@Herrington,

In case you become interested, I took 2 really good and easy teachers for those two classes. David Casanova is awesome with Chemistry. I hadn't had it for about 10 years and made an A. He is at Northwest Vista College. I also had Gerald Busald for Stats at San Antonio College...super easy. He goes over the test review one class before, allows you to bring in one 4x6 notecard with notes front and back, and literally uses same problems on test as reviewed (he just changes the numbers). Either way, I wish you the best!!!

@Ratlady,

I took Govt 2305 (Federal) through Northwest Vista online, Flex 1 last spring with Pamela Dunagan. She was awesome. The class was easy, interesting, stress-free, and fun. You can look up her reviews on Ratemyprofessor. Alamo college's tuition is pretty cheap. I took State Govt. years ago at UT Arlington.

@Herrington,

I know this won't apply to you since you will have all of your pre-reqs done before you hear back from UTHSCSA. I thought I would just pass along this info in case someone else encounters it. Some of the students were informed that UTHSCSA must receive all transcripts and immunization records before they can register for the classes on Nov. 1. This will not make students lose their spots at UT, but will put a hold on their accounts and prevent registration. This does not affect which classes we will get since we all have the same schedule, but may prevent students from getting the clinical location they want. There is a way to get around the temporary hold for transcripts by e-mailing registrars@uthscsa.edu. They will send a form to complete, which will allow students to register.
