hello all,
guess i'll get our thread started. i've watched these over the last few semesters, and it's a great way to share information and get to know each other.
i applied earlier this month, and got an e-mail this evening letting me know that i am eligible regarding my prerequisites. i was surprised to get something back so quickly since the deadline is july 1. anyway, that's the first step in the process...a long, long process. :) hopefully, there will be plenty of us on here to keep each other company.
look forward to getting through this process with you.
Hi everyone. I just got my acceptance letter for Spring 2011. Does anyone know what the class profile is? May not be available until after all have accepted their offers. Rumors swirling around about really low grades being accepted, but I have yet to know or hear of anyone applyling with less that hi 3's gpa and high 80's teas. Any thoughts?

Most nursing schools make admissions decisions based on a two things, a person's ability to complete the program and the ability to pass the NCLEX. Schools get funding based on the number of people who start compared to the number of people who complete the program (the % of people who graduate) as well as the first time pass rate on the NCLEX. Therefore, schools are going to look at all of the information in your application and see if you have a chance on completing the program and passing the NCLEX on your first try. You may not agree with it, but that is why there is such a high emphasis on entrance exam scores. It tells them if you are a good test taker. They also look at how tough of a course load you have. Yeah, someone may have a 4.0 but only took 1 or 2 classes a semester. That's why you hear about people with high GPA's not getting in and others with a Biochem degree and a 3.2 getting accepted.
I'm not saying I'm a genius, but I know I was one of those where they looked at the whole person and not just the grades. I have a previous Bachelor's Degree, several years of being a project manager, and an EMT. My overall GPA with 160+ hours is around a 3.3. My science GPA with upper level classes like Biochem is around a 3.6. I got a high 80's on the TEAS. I still got in with those scores. I'm sure they looked at all aspects of my application and saw that I have the ability to complete the program and I'm not a bad test taker despite not having a high 3 GPA.
For those of you trying to get in, don't lose hope. There are tons of high stats thrown around on this site and it's easy to get discouraged. I know I've been discouraged in the past few months reading threads on here. Keep doing your best and remember that not everyone who gets into nursing school has a 4.0.
it's my understanding that they based admission on TEAS, GPA, and essays in that order. at the open house i attended, they did not mention anything else that would be taken into account. the fact that the TEAS is worth 60% might explain why people who did well on the TEAS didn't necessarily have to have a high GPA. my GPA is only 3.55, but i got a 91 on the TEAS. but who knows...i'm just glad i got in. i've been looking forward to this for two years now. yaaay!
so...where is everyone from? are you going to relocate? i'm just south of austin and will be commuting.
Hello congrats again on getting in!
I am not from San Antonio but I go a lot because my boyfriend goes to UTSA and he lives on Medical Dr. pretty close to the health science center.
I saw a couple of apartments along Medical drive that you might want to look at...
- Stratford Apartment (my bf lives there it is pretty cheap but it can be hard to get a hold of maintenance sometimes)
- Aspen Village Condos
- Broadstone on medical (I just threw this one in there because I heard a lot of students live in broadstone)
I hope this helps somewhat... I will keep an eye out!
