hello all,
guess i'll get our thread started. i've watched these over the last few semesters, and it's a great way to share information and get to know each other.
i applied earlier this month, and got an e-mail this evening letting me know that i am eligible regarding my prerequisites. i was surprised to get something back so quickly since the deadline is july 1. anyway, that's the first step in the process...a long, long process. :) hopefully, there will be plenty of us on here to keep each other company.
look forward to getting through this process with you.

Thank you for your hard work. I am with you in that I can not purchase anything til I get my loans and such in. I believe our disbursement date is Jan 3, which leaves us a few days before we can pick up text books and almost nil chance of getting used books. The main problem with Amazon is that the books may arrive late.

Just make sure you leave on plenty of time to spare because once the shuttle bus comes its gone. I've seen many students being left at Lot 17 because so many people were trying to climb into the bus that passed right before class. I know you might not feel right leaving your child earlier but you might need to. I know I have had to leave earlier to school and arrive later on during the day.
Some of my friends hold part-time jobs during the weekends so that they can get a little income into the household. It all depends on how you are going to be able to handle all the work load and working at the same time.
For books, I saved about half the amount by purchasing on amazon, craigslist, ebay, and halfprice.com. I used my credit cards and then when my loans came through 2-3weeks later I just paid if off.
while checking things out on amazon.com, i noticed that they have an amazon student membership that includes free prime shipping for one year. prime shipping is two day shipping, so you get your stuff pretty quick. this will come in handy not only for books, but also for your holiday shopping. very nice!
not sure if anyone else has found it, but i was poking around, and i found that i could set up direct deposit for financial aid. it's toward the bottom of the page when you log into the account page. maybe it's just me, but i never really noticed it before. sure will make it easier to get that money after tuition and fees are paid. :)

i put together the list of books in a little bit different format to help with shopping. i went ahead and priced the books through the school bookstore online and also checked amazon. there are a couple of extra columns for your own comparison shopping. hope it helps. if you see any errors or have anything to contribute, let me know. sorry i couldn't post it in editable spreadsheet format...it would only let me do .pdf. if you want a spreadsheet copy, send me a private message, and i can e-mail it to you.
i for one will have to wait for my loans to come in before i can start buying. anyway...happy shopping. :)
