Okay so im applying to uthscsa for the spring and was wondering if anyone knows what gpa they look at and any other helpful ideas to get an interview etc. my prereq gpa is 3.74 but my overall gpa is a 3.44...is that going to hurt my chances? i went in for a transcript review and debbie calculated the wrong gpa for me and i didnt notice until i got home. i hope they dont mess up with my application. eeeek im so nervous i wanna do everything possible to get in!!:D the only other place im applying to is sac but i much rather get my bachelor degree then an associates....

I don't blame you for the Orgo Chem stress. I am not taking any major science courses at the moment. I am grateful for still having time to read a book other then a textbook. I am trying very hard not to take waste the next 45 days because it will be the last days of freedom for a long time. Good luck on getting the hold issue fixed. Have you shot the school a call since you got the postcard. It might help. Happy Studying!

Hi everyone, I am currently a 1st semester nursing student, bout to be 2nd, yeh!! If you have any questions, jst ask away, I'll do my best to answer. I believe it was calinative-dnt worry bout buying a book about surviving clinicals. Its not hard. You will go to lab on Mon, & then you will have clinicals on tues or wed. so u will use the skills you learned on mon lab for clinical. And you wont go to clinical right away, so you will be fine.

Lovely....just lovely

Unfortunately the gentleman that was currently working at the BON handling Criminal Background Checks has resigned causing a backup of us receiving notification of students that have cleared the background process. If you have received notification from the BON (blue index card) stating that you are clear you may either email or fax the card to us at the number below so that we can remove your hold. Until we receive some type of notification either your blue card or our list from the BON we cannot remove any background check holds. We apologize for this inconvenience and we do know that the BON is doing everything they can to get this process moving again. Classes will not fill up as we have slots for all students that were accepted.

Thanks for your cooperation,

CyclicalEvents, Thanks you for sharing this info. Could you post the email address and the fax number to school of nursing here? I need to fax or email them to remove my background check hold. Thanks again.

How helpful for our program do you think it is to have a laptop that you can take with you to school? I have heard such awesome things about the library from other students but i have also noticed when I went for my TEAS test that everyone was on their laptop (don't know if it was for school though;) ). I have a home computer but am depating on getting a smaller laptop for portability. Thanks in advance for your advice.

woops, should've added that

Calinative84,

It all depends on your style of studying/preference. First semester I never brought my laptop to classes or school and just printed out the power points and took notes on them. This turned out pretty well as I listened in class and took awesome notes (at least i think i did haha).

But 2nd and 3rd semester I stopped that and just brought my laptop to school. I got tired of printing all the power points and it just saved me paper and money from ink. I still take decent notes but I notice myself on Facebook A LOT during class haha and just browsing other things when i should be listening..

I also bring my laptop b/c of all the various assignments that we have to do anyway and I cannot for the life of me get anything done at home so i literally have to stay on campus for anything to get accomplished.. That being said I know many people that do just fine never bringing a laptop to school, so all in all it's up to your preference in what you want to do. (I for one vote for the laptop)

Do you have any suggestion on how to get good grades on the classes? Where are the test come from??? note or books??? Any advices on clinical??

Thank you.

Has anyone heard anything about whether or not the board approved the restructuring of the accelerated program? I'm still waiting to hear so I know if I am starting in January or May!

Bond2b - honestly all i did was go to class take good notes and I did fine. First semester for 3802 and 3312 (i'm 3rd semester right now) the tests really came from the notes and lecture so I didn't read the book much. You will have a different teacher for 3209 and for the most part people have read the chapters for that class

Books, I would refrain from buying ALL of the books some are not really needed (sorry I don't have your book list or i'd tell you some that are useless). Clinicals are not really bad first semester you basically get assigned one patient and as a first semester you are basically a tech (bed baths and vital signs)and towards the middle to end you get to hand out meds... You basically do a care plan a week which is awkward at first but you will get used to it as the semester goes along.

Hopeful03 - Well I was part of the accelerated program to (I lost the summer man that was a endless year for me haha). For the most part I started in January for semester 1 did semester 2 during the summer and joined the new class for semester 3 in the fall.... That's how us accelerated people did it, so sorry if they decied on changing it...

Any more burning questions? Happy Thanksgiving all!
