Hi, I got my letter this morning also, whew...

However, I got a question that I would appreciate it if anyone could help, please.

I orriginaly applied to the Spring '09 accelerated BSN which expects to conclude with graduation in May 2011, ie. 4 semesters program, form 01/2010 to 05/2011). In the letter, it said, "admission as a Generic Track baccalaureate nursing student in the Spring 2010 term."

Would that means the same accelerated tract that I had applied for? Somehow, I am confused about generic and accelerated.

Thank you.

This might help because someone had a similar question. This is what a current student posted.

Hi everyone. I'm a current student so hopefully I can help answer some of your questions...

Unless you already have a prior Bachelor's degree, you won't be eligible for the accelerated program. That may be why some of you didn't get the email.

The entire nursing curriculum at the school is being overhauled, including the accelerated program. Up until now, accelerated students took the exact same courses, only they had one of their semesters smashed into the summer so that they finished a semester earlier than the other people they started out with. They are changing it so that accelerated students are in an entirely different program all together. It should be an improvement. I am not sure if they are keeping the accelerated program that starts in January or not. I would call and ask them what the plan is, and how many months it would take to complete the new program that starts in May (assuming it is approved).

I'm looking forward to seeing ALL of you guys at orientation!

Thank you Calinative 84. I got by BS, I did specifically mentioned the accelerated program, I hope I am eligible to register my summer semester and graduate earlier then. It could be confused though.Again, thanks.

Good luck figuring it out! Look forward to meeting you next semester.

There are some people waiting for UT Houston acceptance, and have already accepted from UTHSCSA. I know 3 of them. Still have chances for the alternates.

Life is full of HOPE and SURPRISES:eek:.

Congrats to rls74, starlight, and andan! Andan, I believe they only have a very limited amount of slots available for the accelerated program (something like 20), and after those are filled they may put people who applied for the accelerated program into the generic program. But like Cali mentioned, the program has been overhauled and therefore I'm not sure what happened there. Maybe a current student could answer this?

Mims86, I had read in posts of previous semesters that alternates had gotten in to the program because sometimes this isn't the only school that people apply for and isn't there only choice. Hang in there, we may see you in January!

I wanted to follow up on an idea that we has already been mentioned..... meeting prior to registration to get to know each other! I was thinking that maybe the weekend after Thanksgiving might be a good time after registration prep and thanksgiving break but before the holiday rush and since new years falls the weekend before registration. If not ... I liked AFmedx's idea of identifying us at orientation somehow.

Getting my fingerprints done today! Can't believe we are only about 60 days away which I am sure will zoom with classs and the holidays. Happy Preping!

Hey Andan, generic track is the regular 2 year program. Not everyone with a prior degree gets into the accelerated program (I was one that didn't), but because things are changing around here, who knows?

I'll just reiterate to everyone - if you have a question, the best way to get an accurate answer is to call the office of admissions! I didn't, and I stressed way more than I needed to.

Congrats everyone!

I received my letter on Saturday. I also received my letters for UMHB and Texas A&M HSC in College Station. Pretty darn sure I'm accepting at SA though! Very excited to meet everyone!

I may be of some insight as far as the accelerated issue is concerned, as I also applied for Spring 2010 accelerated. I was told today when I called the school that the accelerated program currently in place is "self-paced" meaning that you are a generic student, but you can accelerate the process by taking classes through the summer semesters. Naturally, this will provide an earlier graduation date, but it is not an accelerated cohort like the one they hope to start in May 2010.

If I hear any news on that, I will be sure to forward it to the board. Congrats everyone!:yeah:
