Hello everyone! I am applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Accelerated program and also the traditional program. I wanted to start a thread since I haven't seen one yet. Anyone else out there wanting to apply to the program too? I am currently finishing my Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology II classes and then I plan to take the TEAS VI this summer. Would love to hear from others planning to apply to the program!
Also a current member of the ABSN program that is set to graduate in August. I'll tell you guys right now that without the help of the previous ABSN cohort (there's only one per year unfortunately, so we only got to see them in school one semester before they graduated) there's no way I would have excelled as well as I did in my first couple of semesters. I am also more than happy to help with ANY questions you may have!
If I remember correctly, your first semester consists of patho, professional socialization, health assessment for 8 weeks (after those 8 weeks, you'll have fundamentals for 6 weeks), and skills labs either in the morning or afternoon depending on what you sign up for. You'll have patho once a week (not mandatory, but sometimes there'll be an in class quiz or exam which you'll have to be there for), pro socialization once a week (same thing here), and then health assessment/fundamentals I think 3x a week (also not mandatory, but I'd definitely attend since the tests are VERY close to the lecture material). The skills labs are also 3x a week I believe and absolutely mandatory. Your day will usually start at 8am or 9am, and then end around 1 or 2, or noonish depending on what days they arrange your classes. (enjoy it, we're currently going 8-3pm). Your last 2 weeks will consist of clinicals, which will either be morning (like 6am-2pm I think) or afternoon (Idk the time since I did mornings). You will also have 2 weekly supplemental instruction group tutoring sessions taught by former students for Patho... 100% GO TO THESE; EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND RELEVANT WITH RESPECT TO EXAM CONTENT. I think that's everything schedule wise.
Hey guys, another applicant nervously awaiting results here. 94 TEAS, 3.3 GPA. (Straight As now, but I didn't do so well when I was younger.)
I went to one of their prospective students sessions where they said that they try to give results mid-Jan so as to allow those who don't get in time to hit the Feb 1st deadline for the traditional Fall program. So... hopefully within the next week guys!
The woman who ran the meeting was very amicable and had a good sense of humor. I learned that the office is (was) short staffed and going through a management transition, so that puts a lot of pressure on them, and they are very short on time.
I'm really nervous about acceptance. My TEAS is good, but my old GPA was bad (I'm in my 40s now). I also found the application procedure to be fairly convoluted -- certainly more difficult than any other university I've been to! (I like to study, and in my travels have attended 3 universities and 2 colleges.) During the meeting, we were told that students time to time get rejected because something was overlooked on the application. That's making me really nervous. I tried to verify everything was in place on my app back in Nov/Dec, both in person and via email, but never got an answer. Ack!
Anyway, good luck to all. I hope that in the next week we start getting some great news popping up in the thread!
