Hi,
I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.
Thanks for your comments
Hi Jayne08,
I just took my CNA skills/written test. Do you think it is best to work at a hospital no matter what or working as a CNA in an assisted living facility is ok? I'm actually in DFW.
I would say working for a hospital would be better, and you get more experience. It would also look good on your resume.
@footballstar, what other school are you applying to that takes the TEAS? I applied ONLY to UTHSC but of course Im nervous about my chances with 80/900+ applicants. I figured it was too late to apply anywhere else but if anyone knows of other schools with deadlines after Sept 1 please let me know. I will def take my TEAS and apply, I most definitely want to start my BSN in the Spring.
I took the TEAS recently too. I got an 82.7 which is 91 percentile. I have heard the TEAS is more challenging because of the science portion, it included earth science, chemistry, physics, General biology etc. But I have not taken the HESI yet so I don't know :/.
The TEAS is much harder than the HESI. I did okay on the HESI, but I didn't study for it at all. I studied my tail off for the TEAS and made an 86 (96th percentile).
The HESi is cake compared to the TEAS. All except for the critical thinking and A&P. Remember how on the TEAS it had nitpicky questions from all sciences? Well the HESI is like that too, except just with A&P. So study you A&P. And try to prepare for the CT. I bombed mine really bad with a 770 which will probably ruin my entire application

I know of two schools that require the TEAS V: TWU (Dallas and Houston) and UTMB (Galveston). TWU considers anything about 80 as competitive and UTMB says 65-75%.
Midwestern State University is one of the only schools I know of that has a deadline after September 1st. There's is due September 30th. They require the HESI.
I am trying to decide if I want to apply there or not. Their pass rate for the NCLEX in 2010 was only 80%. UTHSC-Houston's was 97%, TWU 95%, and UTMB 94%.
Here is the link to everything you need to apply:

Heyjude, I got the same score on the critical thinking and was so nervous that I wanted to take the hesi again. I spoke to two advisors and they told me that I passed everything on my first attempt and should not take it again.
