UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

@l8blumer, I knew that u got accepted to twu. I'm planing to apply there for the next fall, can you tell me what u made on teas test to get in?

I know we had at least one person who is 20 get in. And I really don't think race had anything to do with people getting in. I'm mixed race, and included the info in my application, and was accepted. I know of people from every race that were accepted or are currently in the program.

@kerrytha, I got into TWU Houston and I made a 70 on my teas. Many of the accepted people had scores ranging from the high 60s to the high 90s. In my opinion, as long as you score the minimum required score on the teas you should be okay. I think they place more focus on GPAs and first attempts.

@kerrytha...no worries I got accepted with my TEAS score of a 68!!!! The teas v was considerabley harder from the iv (from what I heard) and not sure if there was a curve. Just do your best to ace the prereqs on the first try if possible, and stay positive cuz half the test is getting through the application process. Best,of luck to you, you can do this! oh, and apply to more than one it two programs- cast a wide net to ensure you have a back up plan!!

I was speaking with a classmate of mine who was accepted for this spring, and she said that a majority of those that she has spoken with are "older". She said there was a 20 year old or two for the fall but most were 26++. She said that "most" of them, not all, have a previous degree of some sort. said that based off of previous semesters, and other students there, that The fall has the younger crowd... Not sure if that means anything to any of y'all.

And FYI - She did not have FB until after she got accepted, said she just joined.

CONGRATS to everyone who has gotten in here, as well as into the other programs. For those that will be reapplying for then Fall Good luck.

Good luck to everyone accepted. I got denied yesterday but idc anymore because I have a 4.0 and perfect stats and I know how good of a student I am. I think God did this to me for a reason because I'm considering medical school now. Maybe I wasn't supposed to be a nurse, maybe I'm supposed to be a surgeon or another type of doctor. It's been fun reading this forum. I hope the Class of 2013 is one of the best classes to come out of UTHSC, and from some of the things I've read here these people who are accepted won't disappoint anyone.

Oh, and if anyone cares or is wondering, I KNOW the reason I was denied is because I'm only 20 years old. Even though I have volunteer experience and did everything else I possibly could to look mature and responsible and caring on paper, my age ultimately weighed me down.

Hey guys I'm new to this post I have been reading yalls comments and finally decided to create a page. I just wanted to let yall know that I highly doubt that age matters. I got accepted, and I'm 19.

Just out of curiosity... are you hispanic or black, etc...??

I'm 20 and applying to this program...

... well if thats the case then why do you think I got denied? I'm happy for you but they have to take age into consideration. I have perfect everything almost except for a low CT score on the HESI. Even if they take that part seriously everything else is perfect almost. It'd be so wrong of them to just focus on one area I messed up on. Maybe you can give me a good explanation because no one else can. Familiy, friends, even NURSES I know are suprised I got denied.

no im a white male

Thank You, L8blumer and angelic1399 for the information. I will definitely try my best on teas test.
